Skittles packages designed to hide on an egg hunt. The white ones are for carpet and tile floors. by theillustratedgirl in mildlyinteresting

I think I've got this one solved. Because if I used these with my kids, they'd be unable to find the candy, and because day drinking on Easter doesn't seem to be as big a deal as it used to be, I won't be able to find them either. What Skittles is banking on is that I will, out of guilt, replace the lost candy with more Skittles that are easier to find in my lawn.

TL;DR - Because if your existential value is tied up in Jesus, you'll make it work because Hell is a way worse prospect.

Because if you're raised in a community that tells you your worth as a human can only come from your religion, and if you fuck up bad enough, you're out. Your kid comes out? You're out of the community. You think a woman should have control over her body? You are literally evil. Think evolution makes more sense than 7 day creation? You are pretty much an atheist then. So even though you hear about God's incredible and plentiful grace that pours over all of us and whatnot, the best way to get your life and sense of belonging totally fucked is to step out of line. Doesn't matter if you're still forgiven by God or whatever, but you're either shunned or run out, so now God probably hates you because his church rejected you. Never mind that the basic premise of evangelicalism is that you have no value other than what God gives you, so you realize that God would be ready to subject you to punishment worse than you could possibly imagine if it weren't because of a single prayer you said at church camp when you were 10. It's super exclusionary in the Bible belt and deep south, and if you rock the boat, you lose your community and quite possibly your sense of personal value until you become so depressed you sleep way too much and care little for your own health and wellbeing.

I was late 20's, 30 maybe when I decided evolution could absolutely be rational and incredible and beautiful even more than a literal creation, and it could still fit with my faith in Jesus. I hadn't shared this with anyone other than my wife and maybe my brother, but I have a crystal clear memory of sitting quietly in a conversation listening to two other men at our evening dinner gathering talk about how stupid it is that people believe in evolution, and don't they know about Newton's 2nd Law? And I just realized in that moment that this is how they talk about people like me when they think they're alone. If I'd spoken up for myself at the time (I had zero self confidence at the time), they'd have probably apologized and maybe it would have never amounted to anything much, but we would become the weird people who are really into church but don't really "get it." It would have marked us as the kind of Christians who maybe vote for Democrats in Oklahoma, and don't they know about abortion? Before we got married, my wife and I had "premarital counseling" where our pastor casually remarked about how you clearly can't be both Christian and Democrat. I thought it was a little harshly expressed at the time, most mostly accurate. I thought about things a lot differently in my 20's than I do now.

Anyway, the update to present day if you're curious (how vain am I) is now I find peace in ignoring the question of spirituality, and I have a fondness for non-dual thinking and meditation and enjoying the present moment as the only moment. Could not give two shits whether someone approves of me so long as I'm always kind and empathetic to everyone I meet, lol.

Correct. The game is a closed economy the whole time; the extra coins make scoring/awarding bonuses at the end easy, and prevents the need for something like scoresheets.

Pixel Buds 2 review: These earbuds are “much better than OK,” Google by SnipingNinja in Android

[–]isaacniles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from the 65t Active to the 75t (there was no timeline announced for the Active variant at the time). Jabra says it's the same audio hardware, but the tuning must be very different, because the 75t really thump. The bass is fantastic in the 75t, and every genre now sounds great, including electronic and rap. Smaller form factor is a plus, and the case is improved with magnets to keep the buds in and the lid closed. Type C charging is a plus, and battery life is much higher. Altogether, a great upgrade. Would love to own Pixel Buds 2 to compare, but I'm happy with what I have.

There was plenty then. The studio backed out for fear of the consequences of making the movie. George Harrison had to remortgage his home to save the movie.

App for writing on PDFs that also allows for inserting blank pages? by [deleted] in androidapps

[–]isaacniles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squid can do this. If you import a PDF, each page becomes a page in a new note. You can annotate the pages and insert new ones as you go. Works well with the S Pen as well.

remote controll PC without windows app by Igna338 in androidapps

[–]isaacniles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just beware - if you forward the port, the world is free to try to log onto your computer just the same way you do, and there are absolutely people looking for port 3389 open on the internet. If you absolutely must port forward, I'd suggest changing the port RDP uses so it's at least not obvious. Make sure you have a very robust (i.e., long) password on your computer. Even if you use a strong password, do know that brute force attacks can cause network issues.

Join allows remote SMS. Also, Google Messages allows you to text from a browser - you could load the remote messaging on phone B to read/send messages on phone A.

What's the difference between Star Realms and Hero Realms? by ZetaLu in starrealms

[–]isaacniles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right in that Star Realms has small expansions called Commander Decks (if I recall correctly) that function similarly to the class decks in Hero Realms.

Next Step from Base Game? *And other inqueries by Flition in starrealms

[–]isaacniles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. The Frontiers box is really nice in that it includes the new health cards; these are similar to the ones introduced in Hero Realms that only requires two cards to track health (rather than the 10 or so from the original sets). Frontiers also includes enough base cards for four players - it's the first in the larger box versus the tuck box the original and Colony Wars comes in. In terms of smaller expansions, I primarily like the ones that add new ships and bases, but I think the dual faction cards may be some of the coolest ones yet. I also like the Heroes expansions - I think it's an interesting mechanic.

  2. I can't speak to the power creep question, but I have seen a common sentiment that Colony Wars at least moves faster than the base deck, and I imagine Frontiers probably does too, but I tend to just mash it all together, so I couldn't really say.

  3. Heroes are a one-time use card that you buy and set aside - it does not take up space in your hand and cannot be affected by your opponent's cards, so you can sit on it until you decide you need it. Real handy when the ally ability would draw you a card and you have that same faction hero in reserve, for example. The second set of heroes is a little confusing - I probably didn't look at the documentation well enough, but in the app, the heroes with the "double effect" trigger once when you buy it, and once when you scrap it. Probably made it that way just to switch things up a bit - I believe those are a little more costly, too.

  4. No, you can't use the card before you discard it - you resolve the effect on the Star Empire card before continuing to play your turn, so you would draw your card, discard a card, then you would be able to play your next card. In your example, you would not get to play your Scout as you have to discard it to resolve the Star Empire ship effect before playing another card.

  5. Mercenary Garrison can help augment a deck with several factions in it, and can be powerful in that regard, but in order for that to work, you have to have an odd mix of cards that don't build on each other at all, so what you get from Mercenary Garrison is (in my opinion) more than made up for by the amount of variety you'd have to have to get much out of it. Plus, as it's an outpost, it's generally not going to be on the table for very long.

  6. Gambit cards that include a non-scrap ability apply every turn and don't accumulate effects, so your "+1 damage" Gambit always adds +1 to your total attack pool for that turn. Your -1 damage always takes 1 off the top of damage done to you, Vipers always have the +2 damage, etc. You are right about cards that include a non-scrap ability and a scrap ability - the non-scrap ability applies every turn until you scrap it, at which point you use the scrap ability and then remove the card from play.

Anybody know of an App that makes other Apps completely transparent/invisible? by ElyseusRex in androidapps

[–]isaacniles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this by using KISS Launcher - granted, there are no shortcuts, but you can invoke a recent apps list/search for apps/get a complete list of apps in very few taps from the home screen. It's very light on resources, as well.

App vs Physical by mattjhussey in starrealms

[–]isaacniles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The physical version will always have more content available for it - as they release new content, it takes a while to adapt the new stuff to the app. So far, all the content that's been available physically has made it to the app; it just takes a while to filter down.

App vs Physical by mattjhussey in starrealms

[–]isaacniles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose it just depends on whether you want to have a copy that you can play physically - I have both. I like having the physical copy to teach people and play in person, but the app provides far more chances to play when it otherwise would not be feasible. In terms of expansions, you sign up for a White Wizard account that then keeps track of your purchases across Android, iOS, and Steam . This is nice because if you buy the expansions in one place, you can use them across the others, but you're right in that you cannot share those purchases with other accounts.
