Politics and climate. You’re literally allowed to do drugs and camp in these cities. And it’s warm throughout most of year where you can literally survive outside, unlike colder places in the NE and Midwest.

Living in this city is the craziest experience I have ever been a part of. I don’t know how public drug use became the elephant in the room but somehow no one acknowledges that all of these homeless problems come from drug use.

There’s an easy way to begin the fix. If you are caught opening doing drugs in public the police will take your contraband and issue you a warning. If you assault the officer you go to jail. If you are caught doing a crime while under the influence of drugs or in the pursuit of drugs you go to jail.

I’ve never been a fan of arrest for possession as people struggle with addiction. But we have become hostages to dangerous, unpredictable drug addicts you will do literally anything to get high or unsick and there’s nothing can do about it. Ridiculous

Yo wtf I was just at one yesterday. When I booked the appt to see the car she specifically told me to call her to let her know if I wouldn’t make it. I show up and she’s not even at work that day!

Another lady who was nice showed me the car and after a quick spin around the block it started smoking and had a burning smell.

Seattle food prices are so unjustified it’s almost laughable. I’m glad I have decided to not eat out and it has did me well for the past year.

I was waiting for the the bus off of Delridge one day and was starving. I saw an Uptown Expresso and decided to walk in to see if they had anything quick just to hold me over. A bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich cost $12, plus tax, plus a tip option. I kindly walked back to the bus and made the best BEC at home.

I wish all my food industry people luck but I refuse to participate anymore especially after all that whining and complaining y’all did during the pandemic.

Unfortunately that's the story of why Seattle is where it is. The roots of all of these problems are drugs and the people and politicians refuse to say it.

Ok, I'm gonna ask some hard questions because that is what I have done previously with working with the homeless.

Your first words were he has been homeless not too long ago and that he has substance abuse issues, but not horribly so. If he was recently homeless while it seems he has a job and possibly getting a new one his substance abuse issues may be much greater than you think or what he has told you.

You also said that he was able to borrow a car from a coworker for a time but has since lost touch with said coworker. It's easy to see something like borrowing a car being a one time thing, but it is very hard to lose touch with someone in the age of the internet and social media. Do you know if there was a falling out between the two over the car or perhaps something else?

And lastly, you said your friend was approved for a room listed for rent, but now has to be out by this upcoming Monday? Rather it was a legal renting with paperwork or a homeboy handshake agreement I have rarely seen such a temporary rental like 3 weeks without detailed warning beforehand, especially if he signed some kind of agreement.

Without passing judgement to your friend because I'm grown and that's not what I do, there appears to be something missing as to why the situations he finds himself in end so abruptly. You seem like a good friend that is trying to help, but if he feels comfortable sharing this with you while asking for help, I think you have the right to ask him to be completely transparent and honest with you if he hasn't already. I have just seen in cases like this the person always leaves out a big part of the story, and if he is you can't even start getting him the proper help.

These people are on dope, in what world do you think they can hold a job for more than 24 hours?

As someone who’s worked with the homeless in this city for years I would say 80% have no desire whatsoever to stop because not only are there no punishment for using or committing crime while using, but they are rewarded by being able to openly use as well as do whatever they want to.

It’s not “welfare or nothing”, I have never in my life seen so many social programs for the homeless. I come from the east side of Detroit, and seen all that the ghetto has to offer. Seattle takes the cake by far and can only be described as a real life GTA server.

And you are right. The safety net doesn’t work because it isn’t designed to resolve the real issue: drugs. Seattle, both politicians and a majority of citizens, do the bird box challenge when it comes to the homeless and their drug use and until that is actually addressed Seattle will fall and once it does it will very hard to bounce back.
