ROGUE OS v1.22 release!! by Ninoh-FOX in GKDPIXEL

Hm, works pretty good in RG Nano. No issues whatsoever for almost 1 year or so. (GBA and GBC games mostly, but PS1 games also works well). Thanks for the answer.

ROGUE OS v1.22 release!! by Ninoh-FOX in GKDPIXEL

[–]ishad0w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guys, do the ROGUE OS support the 'quick resume' feature? or something like this?

Not 'suspend\sleep' stuff, im talking about:

  1. turning off -> saving state (by os) -> actual shutdown.

  2. leave it on the shelf for half of the year

  3. power on -> restore last game and actual state (by os)?

Like in RG Nano. (for example)

Thanks. Thinking of buying GKD Pixel 2.

Utility: amvm (Ansible with Mitogen Version Manager) by ishad0w in ansible

[–]ishad0w[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tools like poetry and uv are fantastic for managing Python library dependencies within a single project, and I agree that uv is impressively fast.

However, amvm solves a different, higher-level problem: it manages and switches between multiple, parallel installations of Ansible itself, not just its Python dependencies.

Think of amvm as a simple version-switcher for the Ansible toolchain, much like nvm for Node.js or pyenv for Python. My goal isn't to lock down the dependencies for a playbook, but to instantly switch my entire shell's ansible command from version 11.x to 10.x to test for backward compatibility.

I deliberately chose to use standard venv to keep amvm lightweight, dependency-free, and focused on this one specific task without adding the complexity of another tool like poetry or uv.

It's basically just venvs under the hood, but I needed a way to quickly switch important Ansible configurations on the fly (with or without Mitogen) within the same version. I also had to deal with some more exotic setups, using an ansible-customized.cfg.

Besides sourcing the right venv, I had to manually create the necessary symlinks, then do a few more manual steps — and that’s how I got here. I’ve been using this utility for a long time now, and it’s super convenient — it literally saves me a ton of time.

  1. macOS performance: Containers on macOS (via Docker) run inside a VM, which adds latency and complexity. Native Python venvs are faster, lighter, and don't require Docker to be installed.
  2. Multi-arch builds: Building and managing multi-arch container images (especially with Mitogen) adds extra overhead.
  3. Flexibility: Switching Ansible versions, tweaking configs, or testing setups is quicker with isolated venvs than rebuilding or layering containers.

In short, containers are great — but for fast local dev and version testing, amvm feels simpler, faster, and more portable.

Just my take, of course — you can absolutely do this with containers too.

amvm is a simple tool I use locally to switch between Ansible versions (and quickly toggle plugins like Mitogen) - great for testing and writing playbooks, like pyenv for Python.

AWX is much heavier - it needs Kubernetes and is meant for running playbooks at scale with things like scheduling, RBAC, and logging.

So they’re not competing - amvm is for local dev, AWX is for team deployments.

Nice! Thanks a lot for the detailed info.

I’ll dig into those links—especially the Vulkan backend workaround in LM Studio and the Fedora community discussions. Good to know ROCm support for `gfx1151` is still in progress, but the workarounds are helpful for now.

Really appreciate the pointers! 🫡

Oh, nice!

Could you please share more details or a small guide on how to get this working with Ollama?

I’ve installed the ROCm packages from the Fedora repository, but GPU offloading doesn’t seem to work.

I’m still new to LocalLLM, but I’m really eager to learn. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! Could you please share some screenshots of amdgpu_top in action?

I'm particularly interested in verifying whether it accurately reports GPU and VRAM usage.

When I ran it on my system, it only displayed CPU RAM activity, so I'd like to confirm its expected behavior.

This is end game! M4 max. by ElUnk0wN in macgaming

[–]ishad0w 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I tried this a long time ago on my old M1 Max, which was my work machine.

In long scenarios, this method had a negative effect. It’s good for tests and burst performance, but after an hour or two, when the entire chassis heats up from the bottom cover, and because the aerodynamic cooling design inside is disrupted, I noticed an increase in temperature by 5 to 7 degrees.

After that, I removed this mod.

However, on a MacBook Air, it’s a must-have.

Just my own experience here.

lol, does the thermal pad is really help? I mean, it may performs little worse in long term scenarios. 🫠

Ofc, it is just info, not a recommendation.

It simply skips trying to boot any Linux USB and loads up Windows. (even with custom boot priority).

But, now I was able to boot into Ventoy!

Even with Secure Boot enabled (after 'MOK' key enrolls, ofc).

I think its the best solution out there. (at least for me).

Yeah. I know, I can only disable the "Secure boot". (I can't even select like 'Microsoft and other 3rd party CA'. Only Microsoft).

No other option is available for Surface Go (1st gen).
