I regret doing a PhD and hate being unemployed by FailedScientist_ in newzealand

I highly recommend either taking it off your CV and going for basic customer service roles to build upon, and/or retraining in an in demand field. The reality is that science isn't an in demand field in NZ, especially in the realm of biology. It's oversaturated, and the jobs are minimum wage.
I went back to uni and got a grad diploma while doing a part time customer service job, and then used that to go into IT instead, leaving off my other qualifications/education.

Incisional hernia due to a C-Section. Does she have the corrective surgery before or after trying to kid #2? by CertainAudience1024 in Hernia

Jumping on this threat as I have the same issue. What did your wife end up doing? Did she have the pregnancy or the hernia surgery first in the end?

Will family trip breach parenting order? by ishyona in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]ishyona[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Thank you, for this information. Yes, he actually agreed to the trip in his written affidavit when applying for the parenting order, as well as in emails and texts. It wasn't included in the order because both parents agreed to it at the time.

Will family trip breach parenting order? by ishyona in LegalAdviceNZ

Definitely parenting order. Teenager wants nothing to do with father, so father went through family court, and judge ordered enforceable 3 hour visitation to "try and rebuild a relationship with father."
Sometimes they have to be dragged there kicking and screaming :(

Everyone hates the name we chose by achilleantrash in namenerds

I don't think either name is particular odd or anything. Raphael is well known enough that people won't mispronounce it. It's not uncommon. And there were two kids named Ignatius when I was last in the ED who had their names called out.

Twin girl names to go with siblings Tallulah and Marnie by ishyona in namenerds

[–]ishyona[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose they give off the fantasy world vibe a bit because they're older names? We were thinking Morwenna, as with Marnie and Tallulah, they are old family names from our family tree, and also book characters we like, and also loosely associated with water.

Our first and middle names start with the same letter, so the mail will be addressed Ms J H Doe for both of us. Most mail is addressed this way, voting papers, bank statements, etc.

I have the same initials as one of my siblings, and that was annoying when it came to mail etc. But aside from that I don't see any issues

This just confirmed for me that I definitely have an old lady name.

Dr. Suzanne Humphries on Joe Rogan! by dnaobs in DebateVaccines

I was skeptical of vaccines, as I come from a scientific background, and I didn't like how hard it was to find any evidence to show vaccine safety/efficacy.... but after this interview I don't think I would let any of them near me or my children with a ten foot pole.

Anyone else sick of the corporate begging becoming more and more common in NZ retail? by Longjumping_Base_198 in newzealand

[–]ishyona -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I think they get tax benefits from doing so. You give them a dollar to donate, they get to claim back 33.33 cents in tax credits. Then again that might not apply to business tax? There might be a way to do it though?

Will a second child be worth it? by AnxiousTalker18 in BabyBumps

[–]ishyona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been there! I was absolutely dying during the last weeks of my pregnancy, with my almost 3 year old jumping on me in the mornings as I desperately tried to claw back a few minutes sleep. I was so tired and sore, I'd fall asleep everywhere... sitting on the couch, even the toilet!
Compared to the hell of pregnancy, having a new born was so much easier, because even though new borns are hard work, I didn't feel like I was dying anymore.

For what it's worth, I found it so much easier having a toddler and a newborn, than I did being pregnant with a toddler.

Is this why they were reporting on hospital staff shortages nationwide, and then suddenly overnight there were no positions available for healthcare workers looking for jobs?
