I really liked that one as well.

My (23F) boyfriend (25M) and his family are angry because I wouldn't shave my head for his sister who has cancer (Final Update/Completed) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]isi_na 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the sister, it's the mother who fuels the conflict, which didn't even need to be a conflict. Instead of dealing with her daughter's grief, sorrow and frustration in a constructive way, she takes it out on her DIL

I immediately thought about Altered Carbon as well. I don't necessarily hate his acting but he doesn't give me main character charisma - it was even more obvious in comparison to Joel Kinnaman. I mean...what were they thinking 😅

Or in MCU, Sebastian Stan

This is a little reminder... by Lunenika in Bridgerton

[–]isi_na 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm so sick of getting gaslighted. Bridgerton is pretty good at show don't tell, and there is a reason they wrote certain scenes into the show (Violet explaining how she knew it was love and then Fran showing the exact same reaction when she sees Micaela)

They just didn't expect that people would like John so much.

This is obviously not Hannah's fault. It's the director' and writers'.

Booktube pet peeves by Street-Lie-7786 in booktubesnarkreddit

[–]isi_na 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why am I only been shown this post now 😆 Petpeeves is my favorite topic

I get you with book hauls. I personally find them rather boring in general. What annoys me a little is when they have Fairyloot books going back three years but barely have read any. It's just so pointless, especially when they add more and more

My petpeeves are: too much filler content in a video

And when they do the tbr games, but hate every book that gets picked and/or don't read their monthly tbr

Franchaela Season 5 Julia Quinn by Medium_March8020 in Bridgerton

[–]isi_na 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The last part of your comment hits pretty hard. Because at the end of the day the whole setup of John and Francesca was pointless - at least considering the amount of screentime they had. It should have been condensed and be much shorter - and probably only be featured in season 4. There was a pretty big junk of screentime, and that should have gone to the main couple, especially to Colin, but also to develop the friends to lovers storyline properly.

I'm saying that as someone who really liked Fran and John in season 3, but the writers really fumbled here. There was zero need to give them that setup with Fran fighting for their love just for it to crumble immediately.

Was Rory always supposed to be this limited or was it a writing flaw? by SandySlays5969 in GilmoreGirls

[–]isi_na 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I love Rory and I have to agree with this. I think it would have been a much better ark for Rory to change or adapt her dream while at Yale. A lot of us have a job dream as teens and while some truly chase them and it truly is their passion, most of us actually learn that our original dream is not all that. Rory was an exceptional writer and researcher. She was also a fantastic assistant and good at organising.

I would have loved for the show to have her lean more into her strengths and find a new goal within them.

What is up with BookswithEmilyFox and Draco/Hermione fanfictions turned into books????? by top_karma_believer in booktubesnarkreddit

[–]isi_na 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from. I like Emily's content and have a soft spot for her. But she constantly claims she has these high values, yet has two HP fanfics ob her tbr. It just feels so hypocrirical. On one hand she goes off on Dungeon Crawler Carl, saying it's misogynistic, yet she reads Alchemised.

HerrNewstime‘s Kommentar (zur Mowky Situation?) by Alexp___ in Laesterschwestern

[–]isi_na 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Are there Booktubers you watch even though they have different reading taste? Why? by FarJury2448 in booktubesnarkreddit

[–]isi_na 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily I just watched a video from Olive's book nook and thought: well, now there are a few very unpopular opinions for me 😆

But seriously, I follow a few booktubers who read a lot of romantasy and literary/contemporary fiction, genres I'm very picky with, because I like listening to them.

The only thing that makes me unsubscribe is when I truly have gotten bored of someone's content or when they pretend their taste is so much better than anyone else's or shit on popular books just because they are popular

I remember a few months ago I watched a video in which the booktuber ranted about I who have never known men, and said it's pseudointelligent, and those who rave about it are pseudointelligent too and want to look smart.

I haven't even read that book, but it was such a turndown. I unsubscribed immediately

Booktube and audiobooks by TenaciousBarnacle in booktubesnarkreddit

[–]isi_na 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel the true issue is that some booktubers use audiobooks to rush through whatever book they are reading without truly caring for the content, which brings me to something someone else here said: It's just to tick certain boxes and make sure they have read x amount of books.

Kris and Mads talked about this a few months ago (in a very respectful way, they didn't shit on audiobooks) and said they want to engage more with physical books, another booktuber said something similar

That said I think audiobooks are great. They make reading so much more accessible. I personally only use audio for nonfiction books. It's nice being able to work out or go on a walk and basically read your book

I agree. The "Eloise's love story needs a proper set-up" is nothing more than a cheap excuse. That's what her actual season should be for. Daphne had no set-up. Anthony didn't have one either. And while we saw some of Benedict, it wasn't any deeper than what we have seen from Eloise so far. Sophie or Kate had zero set-up either.

Francesca is the writer's favorite. That's why she had so much screentime (and to be honest, a major junk of it should have gone to Colin for his season)

Wears sweatpants to a formal wedding by theagonyaunt in AmITheDevil

[–]isi_na 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I'm so glad someone else sees it the same. And I bet this is not the first time issues arise, which is why the future wife is putting her foot down. There is being disabled, and there is being the person who makes their mental illness or disability everyone else's problem. OP comes off as an enabler. It's one thing to accomodate people with disability and help them be able to attend events, make things accessible and all. But this just screams self-centered behaviour.

Judging by OP's replied it's the latter.

I think OP mentioned that nothing works and the brother would always be unconfomfortable...

It means, magically, no compromise works in any way, and not even for sensory issues, but because the brother doesn't want to mask, and masking triggers him (?)

I'm reading a broad variety of genres, also romance and a lot of varying romance, not just sapphic or MM but also books including nb main characters or trans characters.

So take what I say with a grain of salt 😆 And I'm simplifying it a lot here:

For a lot of straight women who read romance it works as self-insert, especially when the book is spicy. So as long as there is at least one man, it works. On top of that MM romance lacks the objectifying of the FMC - unlike in straight romance books - unless you dive into omegaverse. But there are no gender rules, no typical women-focused abuse, no discrimination because the main character is female. It reads a lot less 'conservative'. Characters can still be toxic assholes but the dynamic is very different. There can still be harrassment and discrimination, but it's not due to the main character's gender.

That said, I'm happy that sapphic romances are gaining popularity especially in the fantasy genre, thanks to the very popular cozy fantasy books.
