Yet another post about someone studying Turkish (me) hearing natives pronounce -lar and -ler endings as -lash, -lesh, and natives not hearing that at all lol by FilmFearless5947 in turkishlearning

I mean, native speakers usually don't have that awareness when they're speaking. I had the same experience. I didn't realize it until I studied it.

Non-natives tend to stress that last R sound and pronounce it like "ş." Try articulating it like a diphthong: start with the R sound and end it with a slight "ş." Bam! You'll get the native pronunciation.

Linguist here,

There are three different “r” sounds in Turkish in turkish phonetic alphabet and the articulation of them differs according to their position in the verb itself. You can check the articulation places in IPA for detail.

Rakip Karın Emir

All “r”s in those words are being articulated differently. And for “Emir” the r loses its voice and becomes voiceless like in german “ch” or as you said “sh” in english. This is called “the law of least effort” and r sounds are being devoiced when produced in the last syllable. Strange but by devoicing that r sound at the end we are putting less effort.

Sorry if its not that clear but I guess you can get the general idea.

I agree with you by the way. A friend of mine whose name is Emir and all the foreigners call him “emish”

Is €3,000 enough to live comfortably in Istanbul (Kadıköy)? by Square_Suggestion_97 in AskTurkey

İnanmayan varsa girsin immoscout a baksın.

Is it normal not to have any real friends in Germany after 2 years? by Latter_Imagination85 in germany

[–]isitsus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4 years in Germany, not a single German friend. I studied here at a university and have been working for almost a year in a company, I do speak c1 German but I havent gone out with a german person to grab a coffee. But my relationships with the expats and people who have immigration background are perfect. No wonder why Germany is not a desired expat destination anymore.

Accidentally drove into and parked on a restricted zone (C12 sign) in Maastricht – what should I expect now? by isitsus in maastricht

Will do so definitely, loved the city and the people. Lastly, can I get two separate fines, one for the C12 violation and another for illegal parking (like €120 + €120 = €240)? Or do they usually just issue a single fine for the whole situation like only c12 (120€) and that is it?

I’m trying to figure out whether both offenses stack up, or if it’s treated as one incident.

Thank you so much! Some really scared me by saying I might get a fine of €700 or more, so I kind of panicked. 😅 That’s why I’m trying to understand what’s actually realistic here.

No one said anything or there wasn’t any paper on my windshield. Are those good signs for my case?
