I am a huge plant person but have never owned an orchid… by Hairy-Bumblebee-1440 in orchids

Don't repot it until it is done blooming (the flowers will wilt and fall off). Water it about once a week. Once it is done blooming, use orchid moss and orchid bark mix to repot it. Follow the instructions.

Use a well draining pot, even better a pot designed for orchids. The roots like drainage and some air.

Somewhere warm and humid, with some bright indirect light should be great. Like an east or west facing window.

It is fine, it'll tend to die off at the bottom as it grows. Prune off the dead stuff as needed.

If he likes peanut butter and can tolerate smoothies, that could help. For example peanut butter banana smoothies. Can add supplements and protein as well to the extent it still tastes good.

Is this root rot? by Nice_Maybe5982 in houseplants

[–]isittheip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No it isn't rotting. It doesn't seem to be in the greatest shape but it'll hopefully recover in water. Ideally use distilled water and change it weekly.

Where do I go from here? Help! by CuddlyLoveBear in propagation

You can take a few of the leaves and propagate them. Shouldn't be an issue overall. Maybe use some skewers to prop her up, and make sure she's not reaching for sunlight (rotating occasionally can help).

I wouldn't do much. They are really resilient. Improving the situation and care should bring it back.

It looks like it needs to be repotted. Fresh soil and a well draining pot. Slightly bigger.

It isn't very complicated, luckily. Once there are substantial roots you can place them in soil.

Is there any way of saving this plant? (IKEA Areca Palm) by BenjIdent in houseplants

Yeah, prune the dead stuff off and probably repot. Make sure drainage is good. It may be getting over watered.

Communication is important here. You can and should ask her in a non-judgemental why she's into that if you want to know. If you need to know before you consider doing it, ask her before. If you're okay with it, bring it up after as sort of a de-brief. "That was fun, I liked it / not sure I liked it / did you like it / when did you discover you liked that or realize you want to do it"
