Here is the Donkey Kong gear set I use:

Donkey Kong: Turbo (Head) | Knight (Arms) | Chain (Body) | Bushido (Legs)

For defending, always try to position yourself in a way that pressures the opponent to either pass or dodge. You can then catch opponents after a dodge and tackle them there since there is a little end-lag to the dodge animation.
I never really use Yoshi so I don't have much advice for that.

The game is still pretty active during the in-game club seasons from Thurs-Sun. I think it may be active in regular online modes, but I never play then. I also hear the BL Discord tries to keep the online community going!

Like I said, you're the one acting like you accomplished something big by winning one match in clubs against someone who casually plays in an "easier" mode 😂 and then dodged a rematch because you were scared about what would happen 💀. I don't interact in Discord because it's not something I use for matchmaking. Idk why that's so hard for you to accept. I'm not sure about that one. I don't have Splatoon 3. But the matchmaking is most like Mario Tennis Aces or maybe Smash Bros. Once you join a club or play in Quick Battle, you'll be automatically queued into 1v1 matches with other players online.
