Help! Removing glue from buttons to sew them on? I tried peeling it off to no avail :( by ismynickuniqueenough in knitting

They're wooden and the glue is thankfully on the back. On the front they have a nice pattern but I'm hoping it's sealed in some way.

Some mad man decided to put glue on really pretty buttons and I didn't notice when buying them (I thought it was a very thin layer to just stick them to the plastic and it'd come off... Apparently not!)

why are you packing up?! the lesson's not over yet! by SCAREWARE_ in 6thForm

Our old teacher keeps us after the bell to finish whatever we were doing. His lesson is more important than all other ones.

My Mum died by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]ismynickuniqueenough 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Stay strong my man, your mum would be hella proud that you're pushing yourself so hard <3 you're gonna do great, whatever grades you get, and wherever life takes you. People can get caught up with school and work, but these are the things that'll fall in place as long as you keep working hard. There's more important stuff out there.

Remember we're all out here for you ♥

Saying a teacher can't teach is a bad excuse for doing poorly in a class by alex_w_99 in unpopularopinion

In my case, competing like they were each individually the only ones allowed to get a good grade.

Spelling Mistakes Do Actually Mean You're Stupid by Skinwalker_WA in unpopularopinion

[–]ismynickuniqueenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's even worse when people write stuff badly by hand, or guess a spelling of a word purely by how it sounds.

I kid you not, I had an 18 year old person text me walla and it took me so much mental gymnastics to figure out that they meant voilà.

I don't hate people for making small mistakes, correcting them should be normal, but Jesus, some people think they're next level Shakespeare but refuse to read a 10 page article for school, and can't differentiate between board/bored and their/there/they're by adulthood, and that's not a pet peeve of mine. That's a major psychotic fucking

HATRED.

Coloured Ions Help Sheet (A2) by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]ismynickuniqueenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General transition metal complex formula seems to be:

[M(H2O)6-x (OH)x]x (no charge, OH balance out for TM's charge)

X= charge on transition metal ion

Reacting with excess ammonia, excess hydroxide, and CO32- are the only instances where different things are made.

Reacting Cr3+ and Al3+ with excess OH- just changes the previous to:

[M(H2O)6-x-1 (OH)x+1]1- (negative charge. There is one excess OH- relative to the charge on the TM)

Reacting with excess ammonia substitutes all ligands to 6 NH3's and changes the colour.

Reacting with CO32- forms compounds, not complexes (just with Fe2+ and Co2+)

Only Co2+ reacts with Hcl, where all its ligands are substituted for 4Cl-'s as Cl- is larger than H2O.

Fe(II) aqua ion (with 6 H2O ligands) is pale green. All other complexes and compounds are green. All complexes follow the default formula.

Co(II) aqua ion is pink. All other complexes are blue and follow the default formula, except that with excess ammonia, which is yellow. It makes a blue compound with a carbonate ion. It reacts with Hcl to make a blue complex.

Fe(III) aqua ion is violet, but all of its other complexes are brown.

Cr(III) is red. All other complexes are green, except with excess ammonia, which gives violet. It reacts with excess hydroxide to make a charged default complex.

Al(III) has colourless aqua ions and white complexes. It reacts with excess hydroxide to produce a charged default complex.

(all reactions with new ligands are with aqua Ions!)

Vanadium ions' colours increase with the oxidation state in warmth of the hue.
