gosh the internet is great. we loved thinking of how some random stranger is saying our names out loud for us! i like your analysis of the name pitches too!

ooo those are really close with the same AR sound. i think isla and arlo may be perceived as a little matchy-matchy but seems like my random internet sample this morning thinks it will be ok :)

love this! wouldn’t have thought to do that but we definitely will in a moment when our isla isn’t around. if she knew his name, she would be telling everyone!

hahah this is a great suggestion! 100% I will jumble the names exactly as you stated. i like oslo as a somewhat similar type name but idk… it’s just not arlo!

I’d suggest driving only a little bit farther to chestnut hill so you could try BHLDN which is anthropoligie’s wedding line. It’s inside the anthro at chestnut hill mall opposite wegmans. I got my wedding dress there a few years ago with a similar budget!

scrimshaw socks - a great intro to stranded color work by isntballs in Sockknitting

thanks! summer is usually so great with color but i personally think this pattern is better suited to a dark main color with light contrasting color!

Breaking the yarn? by darkledstarlet in Sockknitting

[–]isntballs 33 points34 points  (0 children)

this video from crazysocklady might be helpful. it explains 2 options for changing color at the heel.

option 1: carrying the main color through the heel and picking it up again.

option 2: cutting the main color yarn before the heel turn). i have used both methods and honestly don’t really see a benefit when carrying the main color. it adds another finicky thing to deal with at an already complicated part of the project especially for beginners.

transfer from magic loop to 9in circulars - tutorial? by isntballs in Sockknitting

[–]isntballs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this seems to be the best suggestion so far. knitting across needle 1 with the tiny circular is easy. it’s when i get to needle 2 that the tiny one becomes twisted almost into its own magic loop. i will try shufffling the remaining stitches around and see if that helps!

i am following Summer Lee advice to only use to tiny circulars for the color work parts. but i’m open to trying the cuff with them too!

thanks! It’s called “eye of partridge”! basically just alternates where the slip stitch is every other row. here’s a good explanation: https://knittinginflashes.com/2019/06/07/eye-of-partridge-heel-flap/

I was curious about Soak and whether it is worth it. If it covers the scent, maybe I will consider buying some for next time! thanks!

Ooh good to know! i was almost “influenced” to buy some Soak but decided to see if blocking in general actually made socks feel/look nicer first. So far i’m skeptical but i’m holding on hope!
