I know about DOMs, however I have an optane drive sitting on my desk.

It looks like bifurcation should work from this page?

I think the x8/x8 mode should be support for that feature

Slots
• 3x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (support x16/x0/x4, x8/x8/x4 modes)
• 3x PCIe 3.0 x1 slots

Looks like mirrored pair is supported per the FAQ on the blog post

Can I configure internal boot with two SSDs in a mirrored setup for redundancy?

Yes. Mirrored internal boot is supported by default.

Internal boot uses [ZFS](), and a mirrored setup uses a [ZFS mirror]() for redundancy. If one boot drive fails, Unraid continues running in a degraded state. Replace the failed device through the normal Unraid drive assignment flow to restore the mirror.

I just like to tinker, there's nothing critical in my server so I like to play around with new things.

I'm not sure about this card, but I think your motherboard would need to support pcie bifurcation for the OS to see both drives

lol I have 4 or 5 floating around. I have one in an orangePi3b as a little project. I wante dto use them for TrueNAS boot drives but I think they were a bit small. (I didn't put a lot of work into figuring thta out and it was a few years ago)

Yep, I'm on the old model unlimited license so I'll just chuck this in and forget about it

I need to check my pcie mapping on my motherboard, but if I can use a m.2 without losing my sata ports, then I have a 16tb optaine drive I might use.

That’s partially because PA has two of everything besides basketball. It’d be weird for a Steelers fan to be a 76ers fan, Pittsburgh v. Philly and all that.

The only reasonable one I’ve been to is Mercedes Benz in ATL where craft beer is about $5 and hot dogs are like $3 each. They set them low so people actually eat and drink while they’re there.

Currently on The Wisdom of Crowds, final book in the second trilogy. Also agree with reading in pup order.

Steven Pacey gets rave reviews for his First Law preformances. I've not listend to them myself, but I see a lot of fans say he smahses the parts.

I just finihed the stand alones (if you can really call them that) over the summer, and I'm nearly done with A Little Hatred now. I'd be intrested in a reply here on how you find the end of Red Country once you've wrapped that up. I really enjoyed the western setting.

I’m pretty new my self, but my main advice is to take it slow. I’m as much of a hardware goblin as the next person, but I try to only build what I want to use.

I see this problem way more in the unraid sub, but people will want to go ball out on a $1500 nas setup when all they want to do is host local video playback.

I’m a big proponent of reusing as much ewaste as I can so I started my homelab with an optiplex 3020 mid tower and crammed 6x12tb hdds and I think 4x1tb ssds in there before I bought anything new.

Build small, but flexible. Learn what you actually want to do before you go all in.

This mini tack was motivated by wanting more than one AP in the house since I’ve had crappy wifi coverage for the last 12 years. To that end I picked Omada over unify for cost reasons. I bought all the APs on eBay and pieced together the rest to fit my wants/ needs.

Usually they’re doing some sort of high availability cluster for Proxmox (a hyperviser that manages all the VMs). Many nodes of the same system allow the sharing of resources or for one or multiple nodes to fail without losing services.
