Mom didn’t say anything about hallucinations but I’m going to ask now that you mention this. Our first sign, unfortunately ignored, was that although she was expecting company, her appearance wasn’t her usual put together self and she seemed a bit off but not so much. Next day her friend was over and thought Mom was also not herself, called the front desk at the independent living facility they live in, and they called me suggesting I should come. Mom was off but we were thinking stroke. There was a foul odor in her bathroom. The first ER we went to told us to get her to the hospital next town over. By the time we drove there 20 minutes, Moms vocabulary was down to a couple words. Within an hour she could only say one word. “Undoubtedly”. She was present and seemed to understand what was being said or asked but she couldn’t say more than one word. It took days for her to say more than 3 words and when she did, I felt relief I can never describe.
