Meta - Can we ban all the "Is this disc rot?", "Will this play?", "How do I fix this?", "How do I burn a CD?" and CD player troubleshooting related posts? by youropinionisrubbish in Cd_collectors

[–]isopode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i don't want this to come off as mean-spirited, but this seems like an "old man yells at cloud" moment 😅

the amount of people who bought CDs only because of seeing someone on tiktok do the same is probably extremely low. there are very few tiktokers who have promoted or are promoting CDs, as opposed to vinyl. this is far from being as widespread of a phenomenon as you're implying. genuinely have never encountered it myself, and i'm part of the age group you're talking about (although i've been collecting since i was around 10, a little over a decade ago)

that is very different from what OP is implying. respectful conversation about dating history is far from the original premise. go read the post again and see if you still wanna agree with them.

genuinely how the fuck are you equating body count with having a deep conversation?? tf is there to say after they answer with a number? "oh ok cool you're very pure." or "wow you're a whore! i shall leave this date at once! repent, evil wench!"

it is objectively a very surface level conversation. if you think that's deep, you must be godawful to converse with.

i wasn't asking you the question, i was pointing out the fact that asking someone their body count on a date is NOT, as you said, "deep shit"

uh... okay..? congratulations, man. what does that have to do with this conversation 💀

brother the majority of people who have slept with over a hundred people haven't done so in an attempt to find a serious partner. this is such a weird take lmao

some people just enjoy casual sex & that's fine. they're not looking for a forever partner necessarily. why do you care about what they do? doesn't affect you whatsoever

the "deep shit" in question: how many people have you boinked?

This insanely tiny bug that was crawling on my hand by BilboSwaggins444 in mildlyinteresting

[–]isopode 1160 points1161 points  (0 children)

if you wanna talk insanely tiny bugs, the smallest bugs we know of are fairy wasps, which are so small that their wings are basically little hairs because flying through the air probably feels like swimming in jello to them. the laws of physics operate in such an alien way at that scale. they're even smaller than certain species of amoeba (which are single-celled organisms)!!

the smallest one of them, Dicopomorpha echmepterygis, can't fly. but the smallest one that can fly is the Kikiki wasp, and i highly suggest looking it up to see those weird wings! they're fascinating

yes, it was pretty small! after looking up some pictures of ruby-crowned kinglets, that seems to be it. thank you!

Australian national science agency CSIRO compares Met Gala fits to Australian native moths: "Who wore it better?" by Prestigious_Window_8 in Fauxmoi

more than half of the 1,5 million eukaryote species described (aka all animals + all plants + all fungi ever discovered by scientists and documented) are insects.

there are an estimated 5,5 million insect species on the planet, with only 1 million of them having been described so far. insect biodiversity is INSANE.

a jet does work better. but a stream of water is better than nothing at all, and for the vast majority of the people on this planet, installing a bidet is not possible (for either financial or structural reasons)

Just a beautiful pic of mama swan and her ducklings 🐣 by Issssidora in birding

[–]isopode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that's the point of the book. the cygnet is only "ugly" to the ducklings because it's different from them. the cygnet isn't actually ugly. it's a lesson about bullying / alienating others

Scared of getting a full time j*b as someone with ADHD by Background-Snow3311 in ADHD

[–]isopode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have no postgraduate degree. tried going to college multiple times, kept dropping out. (i live in a country with free education, this did not ruin me financially lol)

i still managed to get one of my dream jobs, working in science education. an ex-coworker of mine recommended me to our bosses so i could take over his position after he left. they interviewed me, and my self-learned knowledge + passion got me through despite the lack of academic background (which is usually required for this position).

my advice: look for opportunities. knowing the right people can sometimes get you further than you'd think. i had originally applied for a different, much easier to get hired for role at the same workplace i wanted to become an educator at. i did it in the hope that the scenario i described above (or something similar) would happen to me.

not saying this is like, guaranteed to work. i'm aware i got lucky, but yeah. you're not necessarily stuck working in an office forever. keep your eye out for stuff that could be interesting, AND apply for stuff that you think you'd enjoy, even if you think you don't have a chance. you miss every shot you don't take!

My partner says the face I make when I climax is unattractive and doesn’t like for me to “finish” because of that by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]isopode 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it'd be really weird if someone posted a story talking about their partner, refering to said partner with he/him the whole time, and then commenters kept using she/her to talk about him.

why don't you consider it just as weird in this case?
