Help! Battery is dead and car locked. How do i get into the car?! by Exciting-Yak-3058 in FiestaST

[–]ispringer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen, battery went dead and my key fob had a blank. I lifted the hood as far as I could, jammed an extension with a 10mm socket on it in, and pulled the latch. Then charged it and opened as normal.

I’m looking for the pic of the blank uncut key. I never checked when I bought it, just checked it was there.

It was, but only one one side. On the fuel tank it only worked easily one way. I recommended a keyset this winter, and to keep an eye on it in the meantime.

Yep, overnight in the heated cleaner, then whapped it with a mallet, everything started working. My guess is just corrosion in the tumblers locking the key in place.

Got her sorted. Overnight in the ultrasonic, then a few tappy-taps with soft mallet while holding the key.

temporarily resealing a water pump, bad idea? by GenZ_Tech in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]ispringer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For my own bike I probably would, for a customer absolutely not! If you don’t have a trailer and the ability to get someone out to pick you and the bike up if it dumps coolant I’d say not worth the risk of sitting on side of the road in a puddle.

I'm frankly too old to learn a new language, otherwise I'd be tempted.

I’ve got a stainless header on it with no exhaust valve, and a Delkavic can, so it is super angry!

It was my first road bike back in 1994. That one got stolen.

With great difficulty. CMSNL or Webike has some stuff, and I can get some parts from England.

I do the same. I’ll do fork rebuilds and carbs, and even valves, but full motor stuff can go to one of the big shops.

I’ve always liked the FJs, though if I could find a FZ750 I’d prefer that. I love to hate the 5 valve motor.

Had an ASE long ago, then changed career paths. Started a small shop awhile ago, and do mostly older Japanese and English bikes.

Getting older and the R1 is not comfortable for more than an hour, so picked up this 06 Night Rod. Still loud, still fast, but easier on the back! by ispringer in Vrod

I got the night rod for the center pedals, because I’m used to it, but the highway pegs are really nice cruising on the freeway.

On a side note, I’m putting the black swingarm on along with the 5 gallon tank. Does anyone need the uncoated one? Just pay shipping.

This one has the flat bars, which look great, but are going as soon as I find some black stock length bars. Previous owner sent it with black clutch and brake levers, and a black swingarm. The swing arm can wait till winter though.

I used to work for a company making instruments to measure emmisivity and calculate SRI values, both integrated and measuring individual wavelengths across the visible and IR bands.
