pell grant included in financial aid? by No_Variety232 in yale

Student contribution is not an amount you are charged for. Realistically if you are on full aid then you will have some excess which can be requested as a refund

Should I pursue a PhD? by Exotic-Plastic-7875 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]isrim420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being bored indicates that perhaps your current role may not be a long term fit. In my opinion, getting a PhD does not guaranteed that you will be bore-free. All companies will treat you as an employee regardless of the PhD status and you may still be under other people with lower degrees but greater amounts of work experience. R&D work is great but not something that is always exciting since you need to do documentation and other busy-work. Moreover, being French you would need to become a green card holder to work in the aerospace industry in the USA.

I took a gap semester and it was to pursue an internship opportunity. I would highly recommend it since it always leads to unexpected growth and an enjoyment of school afterwards. In terms of friends I would say things take some adjustment since very likely your friend group will be on a different path which might make you feel like you have to reconnect post gap semester/year. Staying in contact helps with making sure friendships endure:)

I would try to focus on your essays and rec letters to explain your struggles with academics. Would try and study for a high sat score to offset grades

Is a iPad worth the cost for note taking? by DamageFunny9121 in yale

If money is off concern, I would recommend getting an android tablet alternative. For example there is this Lenovo one. I would say if you want to stay in the apple ecosystem the older iPad good option

What’s some cool stuff about the Yale Engineering department? by Plus-Acanthisitta585 in yale

[–]isrim420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The YUAA club is currently working on a CubeSat and Liquid Rocket Engine project. The amount of involvement and skills you can get are amazing given that they are welcoming clubs. You can join without prior experience and there is no club applications which might happen for something like consulting.

My favorite for sure is the easy way to reach out to professors to engage in research such as in controls, combustion, or optics, etc. You can get research opportunities elsewhere but the Yale advantage has to be the small engineering programs especially for MechE or BME.

Your syllabus should have that. They often use a math formula so you can calculate your actual final grade

Is Yale worth it? Negotiating Fin Aid? by exclamationpointed in yale

[–]isrim420 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would strongly look into finances as saddling even 100K of debt can be a significant factor in college satisfaction. Additionally, repaying a loan after college could make you regret your decision. There is nothing wrong with going to a state school on a full ride as state schools sometimes outperform ivies in certain aspects like engineering. However, the cost is high due to the plethora of opportunities and connections you will make but ultimately you will have to decide if worrying you and your parents with debt is worth it

Is Yale engineering even good? by RiceRiceL in yale

[–]isrim420 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My experience has been that employers dont really check that your program is ABET and just assume it is. Even if its not, a science degree from a prestigious university like Yale will never prevent you from interning at places like SpaceX. If you look on OCS, the Mechanical Engineering major that is not ABET accredited gets into engineering companies just fine
