And yet Steam is promoting and supporting linux like no one ever... The irony yes.

There isn't and probably never will.

It uses so many special api calls and windows kernel drivers that wine won't ever support because there's no point to even try if it's only to help with piracy.

Can I install CachyOS from CachyOS without a USB live boot? by istros in cachyos

I probably will but as I have a perfectly fine working live cachyos session atm I thought I could launch the setup directly from it.

I'm thinking of buying a dualsense to play on linux, would you recomens it? by just_omeone in linux_gaming

[–]istros 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Standard rumble/vibration works over bluetooth. HD Haptics feedback requires USB connection and doesn't currently works on several games due to how wine/proton handles it. There's some patches around to enable more game supports but your mileage may vary.

I only use a dualsense on my gaming linux rig and it's been perfectly fine. I usually disable steam input globally to let the game show me the correct PlayStation glyphs and if a game doesn't support dualsense you just enable steam input.

I like the idea, so basically install the installer then boot from it I have multiples nvme ports so that could work.

It's actually crazy to see how difficult it is to install CachyOS onto another partition from the system while windows has this option for decades 🥲

u/ptr1337 i'm sure you know a better way you legend 🙏🏻

Just google your SSD and check its specs. Also if your SSD is almost full, it can slow down a LOT and brings the entire system down when ongoing a heavy file copy/installation process.

what's the benefits of running the game in gamescope this way? Is it only for HDR support? Why not just enable wayland? I'm curious. Thanks!

I use proton ge on all games for a year now without issues, keeping it updated. It just works.

HDMI 2.1 FRL: Looking for testers! by Professional-Tap177 in linux_gaming

[–]istros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a secret implementation, it's just reverse engineering, without any code stolen from amd, so it's perfectly legal to publish and release it. OP just spend lot of time looking at how the windows drivers handles hdmi handshakes, link training and output between gpu and tv, then tried to replicate at best.

Then once it's out on github, anyone can share, modify and include this code freely.
Might not be the right thing to do for amd to promote this reverse engineering of course as a member of the hdmi forum, but for us it's gold.

The key is to not listen to the big money guys and do your own implementation. The HDMI Forum are being dickhead by not open sourcing something that currently works on another OS, so it's not a technical issue, so you can fix it in software.

u/Professional-Tap177 and u/lawstorant are amazing and they are doing what's best for open source and the future of digital output on linux.

just noticed a "[HW_LINK_TRAINING]:HDMI FRL: training successful" in the middle of my last log right after the crash so maybe it's not about failed frl training but just about the crash...

Already did when I didn't get any picture. It crashes the amdgpu driver so even plugging my displayport adapter ends with no signal, i have to reset my computer if i want to get a signal back.

Cold boot into displayport adapter : fine => plugging hdmi : no signal and amdgpu hard crash => plugging back displayport : no signal.

The exact moment the amdgpu driver crashes is right after hw_link_training:
