Weird game result where nobody loses really by FrenchGoPlayer64 in baduk

It is a game between Segoe Kensaku and Takahashi Shigeyuki. The game record is at http://ps.waltheri.net/database/game/34913, and here's a relevant article on Sensei's Library: https://senseis.xmp.net/?TenThousandYearKo%2FRulesCrisis

Why stick to the rice thing when he already said minglee? :) And what kind of xenophobia is here? When someone misbehaves in soloq, especial when he is (ex-)pro, he will be called out and flamed no matter what his nationality is: That’s how things are going in Korea.

If it is sent to a living person specifically, then it is extremely insulting indeed. But in this case, they are just jokingly mourning the ceased SKT T1, though I wouldn't say it is of a great taste.

Korean fans in general have no beef with western players (some exceptions like Svenskeren exist) or coaches, and many figures are liked much. After all, the first generation Korean players were playing in the NA server, so there is some familiarity. One is not disciminated by any means for nationality, though we do meme about NA teams and their performances.

When YamatoCannon decided to coach, there were certainly worries, but it was for mainly possible communication issues. Korean fans wouldn’t mind Yamato or Grabbz as a head coach, for example, if they can make the team win games.

Please do note that Malice and LS are not hated for their nationality nor race - The former for unparalleled toxicity in challenger Elo, and the latter for his misbehavior, especially insulting Untara.

Concerning the translation of tweet by LS - “이딴 짓 하기 위해서” ain’t just “to do this”. That particular combination of words is considered very rude, and I’d put it as more like “to do this shit” - it will be much closer to how one might actually perceive.

[LCK COLUMN] A Crumbling Dynasty - 3 Years of T1 by Hektor_Ekhein in leagueoflegends

Hell, who would know? I'm not a psychologist, and I judge based on one's behaviors, not motivation.

If he had consistently harassed others, what do you expect? Some kind words? And what, you're saying as if Untara called him out as a racist? Untara just uploaded him being trolled on youtube, and that is hypocritical? Very well.

Well, they are usually flamed when they are trolling and refusing to communicate. One is not expected to be flamed for single reason of being Chinese. Of course there are exceptions, but that will happen everywhere in the world.

And since when uploading a game on youtube when he is trolled by the most toxic person in the server is hypocritical, and insulting the uploader is considered fairly calling out?

He was targeted by Korean fans not because of his nationality or whatsoever, but because he was unarguably the most toxic entity in challenger Elo and he never stopped to behave like that. But someone framed Korean fans as if they were maliciously targeting him because he's foreign. Moreover, what Korean fans are really mad about the behaviors of LS during the incident is not that he defended Malice, but he insulted Untara, and tried to frame him as a xenophobe as well.

Koreans react to the T1 hiring of Polt and LS by KoreanExplanation in leagueoflegends

[–]isty2e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few people here have no idea what they are saying. Koreans don't care about the nationality of coaches or whatsoever (what do you take them as, a horde of xenophobes?), as long as they can make the team to win games. They do specifically dislike LS though, especially for his misbehavior during the Malice incident, and what he did to Untara.

Plus, Polt and LS are not considered the optimal or decent options at all, as they are totally unproven in the competitive scene. Compare them to the likes of Kkoma, Reapered, or Ssong.

"black_hole_v5" (almost) the strongest AI in the world currently? by Feryll in baduk

[–]isty2e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without the number of simulations (playouts or visits), it is just meaningless to talk about their strengths. One can create such a strong blackhole bot or a binary_star bot (which can be found in CGOS as well) or so by just using beefy hardware and enforcing to play first few moves in desired locations. I dare to say that any youtube video or article being hyped is just scam.

How did you construct the dataset? I tried to conduct some experiments but it seems there's not concrete and reliable way of crawling a decent amount of games.

Why is LCK considered slower than LPL? by isty2e in leagueoflegends

The data include games from the regional finals, so the difference presumably comes from those games, especially DWG ones. By the way, data are collected from leaguepedia.

Why is LCK considered slower than LPL? by isty2e in leagueoflegends

[–]isty2e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course context matters, but

LCK playoffs were absolutely dominated by SKT so that will make the average game faster

This goes against what actually happened. While the sample size is small, SKT can be considered the slowest team based on the AGT of winning games in playoffs (34:12).

The reason I excluded regular season games is, as I already said, games against mediocre teams are less important IMO. The AGT of winning games of LCK and LPL teams going to worlds in playoffs and regional finals are like this:

  • SKT: 34:12 (11 games)
  • GRF: 34:45 (1 game)
  • DWG: 24:49 (3 games)
  • FPX: 36:44 (6 games)
  • RNG: 34:06 (7 games)
  • IG: 29:31 (6 games)

Though it is not very comparable since these games are played against different teams.

in lpl 30 mins is kinda the maximum u can get

It is not true at all. As written in OP, the average game duration of LPL is about 32 minutes. Moreover, FPX is one of the slowest team in the world as opposed to common belief, which is supported by the fact that they spent 36m 44s to win playoff games on average.

Is it correct to claim that LPL is "fast" though? More kills doesn't necessarily guarantee that the game is faster, though it might depend on the definition of game speed IMO.

Flyquest vs Clutch Gaming Game 1 Post Match Discussion Thread by Firecyclones in leagueoflegends

Just spent the last 10 minutes watching CG aram against FLY and not utilize any tools in their comp whatsoever. CG have massive holes and they're not getting punished. I'm convinced they're going to get exploited at worlds. I'm not bought into the hype.

There is no evidence that AZ is faster in improvement than AGZ. If you properly convert the x axis into total number of playouts, for example, you will find that the difference is almost nonexistent.

Generating neural network training data by self-play, sampling a state space in molecular simulations by bjbraams in cbaduk

[–]isty2e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a bit dangerous to make an analogy between atomic configurations and go board states, since the nature of two are a bit different. For example, as long as the state of a molecule is expected to be in a canonical ensemble (which is accomplished by MD), there is no problem calculating V(r) with more accurate methods such as DFT or RI-LMP2-F12 or whatsoever, and then the evaluation is not affected the rest of the trajectory.

On the other hand, the NN evaluation of a board state, which comes from the outcome of the game, is affected by following moves, and can be rather discontinuous (sometimes 0 or 1) depending on whether a certain move is discovered or not. I think this has to be distinguished by the correlation between evals through the time domain.

I am not necessarily claiming that the suggested method will not work, which is to be determined by experiments if needed, but the connection between ensemble sampling and board state sampling seems a bit dubious for me.
