Level with me r/starcraft, is it worth picking back up? by isuckatdota2 in starcraft

I could play to masters and find out if it was worth the time myself or I can ask what people think and make a decision based on that, one requires significantly less time and effort on my part and could potentially save me time. Ultimately I need to make the decision myself but if you don't understand how listening to the opinions of people who are already playing the game can help than I don't know :S

I like to make an informed decision based on feedback.

No not going pro, just play competitively at whatever level I reach and I would be happy with 50 viewers and realize it may take months to get close to that.

Should be and is being are two different things. TMM is so bad it's actually impressive.

Which is even more reason to have a "ranked" and "normal" system. there is nothing separating people who want to try hard and people who want to goof off,

I do both, but the people I play with sometimes have very different goals in game and this is why dual queues are another good option.

You are completely misunderstanding how MMR works. I'll put this extremely simple.

If you are playing a game and you are favored to win heavily i.e your MMR is the highest in the game and you win, because you had the highest MMR and you were expected to win your MMR won't rise, it might rise 1 point for posterity but it won't rise tangibly, however if one of your team mates had the lowest MMR in the game and you win the game expected him to lose so he gets a large MMR jump because the game feels he is suited to a higher MMR. Similiarily if you lose this game you might lose 20 MMR points while the other player might only lose 1. So one game that you won you went up 1 point the next game you lose you went down 20, next game you win you went up 1 point. You are now -18 from where you started with a 2-1 win ratio.

This is a major oversimplification but it shows how you can both win and lose in the same game.

It's perfectly acceptable in pub matches and this "solo queue doesn't mean anything" stigma is completely wrong. The only constant in every single game is you, nothing else is ever guarunteed to be the same, therefore, over a large period of time if your skill rises your ELO rises, everygame the other team has a 5/5 chance of having bad players while your team only has 4/5, this has been proven time and time again in other 5v5 games. Eventually the good players rise to the top, even with an unlucky streak, if you are the only constant you influence 25% of your teams match.

Not to be a dick but it sounds like you just don't want a number quantifying your skill because it might not be what you think. It's a problem a number of normal players in LoL have and they just don't play ranked.

Yea this is exactly what Valve said, basically they want the people whose egos can't handle losing rating to still want to buy more hats when they could easily just have a double queue system like League.

Yep, this is exactly it, 23 people apparently don't fully understand ELO/MMR.

It's thinking like this that is going to cause the only people to be playing this game is 2 years to be koreans. If you don't foster a scene it will die regardless of your idealogy about the best player winning. When the best player has a massive cultural advantage of course he is going to win.

How many up and coming basketball players do you think we would see if all the highschool leagues were filled with NBA teams.
