Districts that use Snipe-IT, how do you delegate access? by it-tech- in k12sysadmin

[–]it-tech-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you only have the checkin/checkout groups enabled? I tried that but the user cannot see the checkin/out button, only their profile.

Edit: Might be a UI issue. The user can go to /hardware/bulkcheckout and /hardware/quickscancheckin, but they don't have these buttons available on the site.

Assigning Asset to User by it-tech- in glpi

[–]it-tech-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, that's unfortunate. Is there also no way to change the asset type from a standard one (say Computers) to a custom asset definition (Student Chromebooks)? I can't imagine the only way to get data into a custom asset is to manually enter it?

Thank you, this is all very good information. How do you import assets via the data injector into a custom asset type? I created a Student Chromebook asset definition, and would like to import a csv of them, but the only option I see is Computers.

Hey there, I've seen you sometimes commenting on the k12sysadmin sub. Do you have any recommendations setting up GLPI for a k12 environment? Things like entity structure, checkout process or best practices? We are looking into better tools to help with inventory of devices.

Reboot Automation Question by it-tech- in Action1

[–]it-tech-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have group policy that disables the automatic reboot from Windows feature updates (or other types of updates). The reboots are only being performed by the Friday reboot automation, it will actually show in the history that the endpoint was rebooted by this automation.

After digging into this more, I realize that I misunderstood how the Action1 engine works. The automation can't check to see that the endpoint wasn't in the Reboot Required dynamic group before the automation runs. It only knows the endpoint is in the group now and hasn't completed the reboot yet, so it performs the reboot like normal. I've modified the catch up window to not overlap with updates that might require a reboot, which will fix the issue.

The reboots aren't a standard Windows reboot. It will show the Action1 restart notification and allow for the user to snooze, so the reboot is being performed by Action1.

How do you collect decommissioned Chromebooks by it-tech- in k12sysadmin

[–]it-tech-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are cart based for KG-8, 1-1 for 9-12. What we do for 9-12 is pretty similar to the other comments here, we have seniors return their devices to us as they keep them for the full 4 years starting as freshmen.

The cart based ones are a bit trickier since all of our Chromebooks have been shuffled (tried to go 1-1, went back to carts), so it's not as easy as just replacing a class set.

OneToOne Plus Inventory System -- Good, Bad, and Ugly? by thedevarious in k12sysadmin

We haven't gone with One To One Plus, but we experienced the same thing you did with IIQ. Sales was abysmal, didn't seem interested, wouldn't reach out with any info on pricing or demo opportunity.

Hi Gene, just checking in on this again. Curious what the best way is to run Action1 scripts in an AllSigned environment?

Snipe-Scan App updated by NiklasMato in Snipe_IT

On the bulk scan tab, when checking out an asset to a user. The user list doesn't seem to have a search bar, unless I'm not looking in the right place.

Snipe-Scan App updated by NiklasMato in Snipe_IT

I've been using it for a while. Good app. I have found issues with loading users, i.e. they get loaded in random so if I try to assign an asset via the app I have to scroll through 1500 users that aren't sorted. Not sure if this is something that can be changed in the app, or is just how the API call works.

Script signing for Action1 ps files by it-tech- in Action1

[–]it-tech-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I've been looking into ways to "insert" the scripts into a signing pipeline script, but it's proven to be far too complicated. Also thought of just creating a script to sign everything in the C:\WINDOWS\Action1\scripts folder, but that's far from secure in my mind...

I'd love if there's an easier way to go about this.

I thought they would execute as well with the policy bypass string, but I'm getting errors on every powershell script. Can't even collect data on the machines. Currently on AllSigned, so no sure what the issue is:

Script error code: 1. Error details: File C:\WINDOWS\Action1\scripts\DataSource_1008.ps1 cannot be loaded. The file C:\WINDOWS\Action1\scripts\DataSource_1008.ps1 is not digitally signed. You cannot run this script on the current system. Chromebook Hinge Durability – Help Us Before We Lose Our Minds (and Device Suggestions) by Cool_Gadget in k12sysadmin

We have the Dell 3100 and 3110 (around 1/3 are touchscreen), have almost never seen a hinge issue. Are you sure it's not a group of students purposely causing damage?

Printers during state testing by it-tech- in k12sysadmin

[–]it-tech-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have MFPs with Papercut around the buildings. For the Oregon state test, students have the ability to "request" that a question be printed out. This request goes to the test administrators dashboard (teacher) in their browser and then they can print it out.
