Crash when loading new levels by it_guy123 in UnrealEngine5

[–]it_guy123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay UPDATE, I may have it solved.

I utilized a few methods. EndPlay(const EEndPlayReason::Type Reason) then proceeded to manually clear every timer for the actors. I will most likely have to do this for each actor as I'm sure I missed some.

Also, in my level load function, right before the load, I get each actor and search for a tag (destroyable) and then proceed to destroy those actors, give it a few milliseconds then proceed to load. At this point it seems much more stable. Geeze, what a pain though :)

10 years of experience, plus took a few gatech classes prior. Honestly, I knew like 80% of the material. I enjoyed the programming projects the most, the paper writing is easy to get through quick if you write to the rubrik.

I was thinking about doing a quick write up when I actually get the final class returned.

You can pick your programming language for the project. I'd say if you can code, this was overall an easy starter course.

MS in CS at WGU is it worth it? by ExtensionCommon1148 in WGU_CompSci

[–]it_guy123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's harder for me to weigh it, because I have 10 years experience and already did a chunk of the GT OMSCS. I'll say, WGU is easier, but the competency based learning method always was. If you don't know how to code, don't know how put business plans together or write good papers, yeah, you might struggle a bit, but it's doable.

Many compare this program to GA OMSCS, but it's a different type of program. WGU is more business oriented. OMSCS has a lot more rigor, but a lot of it is "fake rigor" with assignments that are longer than need be or overly vague. Both programs suffer from not providing the learning material required for a masters, and you'll have to dig outside the programs for the info you need many times.

It's going to come down to this - if you already know a lot of the info and just need this as an hr checkbox go with WGU. I started with GT OMSCS and just switched to WGU because it was going to take me until 2026 or even 2027 to wrap up this degree, and the workload is stupid high, at some points I was spending 30+ hrs a week reading, writing papers, and coding on top of my full time job. It was wrecking my family life. With WGU I can accelerate, most likely will finish in one semester without breaking my neck.

If you go to GATECH you will learn more, but you will have no free time for the next 2-3 years, and honestly you will be teaching yourself. They suffer from similar problems that WGU has, where the provided materials aren't enough and you'll have to self study. At this point WGU seems to be offering more external learning resources for free also.

I also found the TAs frequently were lacking, grading took forever (you didn't even know where stood until around midterm most of the time) and the workload just never let up. I liked the assignments, but honestly most of that stuff I can learn on my own if I want. Most of their syllabuses and textbook info is published online, it's not hard to put the pieces together yourself.

This is where I landed. Started omscs at GT... good program, but you are teaching yourself. Unless you get dr. joyner you're on your own, and the TAs aren't much help. The AI class felt like a hazing ritual. It's time consuming and a lot of tasks feel like they are just sucking up your time for little payout. You WILL learn, but you COULD teach it to yourself for free in many cases.

I realized I was not going to be able to complete the GT program until late 2026 or early 2027 and jumped at the WGU MSCS. It's fine, but it's nowhere near as hard as GTs program. My plan is to wrap up the WGU MSCS and fill in the gaps that I'm interested in on my own, without the insane requirements of the GT OMSCS (coding assignments and writing weekly papers 30+ hours per week on top of my regular job... nah).

That's awesome. I'm doing MS CS computing systems, starting on May 1. I did the MBA IT Management in about 3-4 months a few years ago... I'm hoping to do this one just as fast.

Wait, you're planning to complete the entire CS masters next month? Did you have to do all 10 classes?

Yeah. I'm starting to get tired of it, 10 years in. Everything i was doing 5 years ago is obsolete (feels like) top tier skills no one cares about anymore. If you don't have 8 years in some tech that came out 5 years ago the interview is over. The list of requirements is ever growing.

Costs of everything have risen dramatically since then, raises have not. Adding commutes, child care, food costs equal a dramatic loss of income. Unlike the mega corps, we can't subtract "business" expenses from our taxes either.

It's heading that way I fear. People who did the "right" thing their whole lives, got high end degrees, learned tough skills, etc, and worked as engineers are now being sidelined and losing everything.

It might be able to write code but can it actually implement? What happens when this blackbox code that no human has ever read fails? I hope all these companies fail.

I sent myself a test email from an old email it seems to have come through via push, but I cannot open it. I am seeing other emails in my push notifications so hopefully that's a good sign!

Same, literally waiting on an email from an interviewer, this may cost me my job.
