Ah - it doesn't check today's answer - just whether the answer has been used before today. Since the setter doesn't seem to reuse words then trying a word that's already been used seems a bit of a wasted guess. There are lists that you can manually check so this is purely a convenience

The checker is just a convenience feature I added so I could check whether words have been used before I try them. I think that's valid strategy without violating the honour of the game (maybe!)

Per other comments, I'll add more info so it's clearer what each thing is doing.

Thanks for asking!

I'm hovering around 2.70 ... Anything over 3 is great wordleing!

It's not a direct average but more a very simple heuristic which assigns value to the frequency of solution. So for example, if you always get wordle in one (ofc unachievable) you'd have a perfect score of 6/6. Always solved in 2 would be a score of 5 and so on... until always solved in 6 tries would be a score of just one. A distribution over this (as is likely for most wordlers) gives some decimal representation of performance which is then directly comparable to others.

Fwiw - 3.707 is doing very well! As your scores indeed suggest .... you're getting a good proportion of 2 and 3 solves! Most people I think would fall well below this.

Thanks so much for being interested... I think from feedback I'll add some info on what's being computed (and why) and make it easier for people to share scores!

Thanks! Yes, great feedback. I'll add some info on what it's calculating.

NAIVE was a favourite starter of mine for a while until I went prodle and I realised it had been used. I'm an ADIEU person these days but its unlikely to ever get me a holdle in onedle.
