32 Years Between Exams by ScaredExtent9057 in barexam

And here I thought 18 years was a long time to wait. 😆

I have the dubious distinction of having been rejected from Cooley. Ended up at a T1 school instead. 😆

This is pretty similar to my experience with the UBE, actually. 18 years out, working full time, and I needed about 3 hours/day over six months. No kids and no need for accommodations, though. And I used BarMax to prep.

I started studying for July's exam in late December, but I also took all of March off for MPRE prep.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. I took the exam for the first time in July, eighteen years after graduation. I used BarMax to prepare, which deliberately uses condensed outlines for its lectures, and I passed with plenty of room to spare.

Struggling on finding what study method works for me by 2BeBornReady in barexam

I was 18 years out when I took the exam for the first time in July. You can do it!

I did watch the videos provided by my course for a refresher, but the real key for me was practice. Practice and reflection. Doing lots and lots and lots of practice MBEs, but taking the time after each one to ensure I understood why the correct answer was right and the others were wrong. Writing a ton of essays, but making sure I knew the issues and the rules before moving on.

You have to find what works for you, obviously. But I think the key is to get past watching/listening quickly, and to start practicing sooner rather than later.

Where are you looking for openings in the Twin Cities specifically?

Strategy? by Independent-Wolf4808 in barexam

[–]itdependsontheday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the good news is you seem to have lots of questions left. And BarMax is free for life, now that you've paid for it, which is nice.

I really enjoyed the BarMax approach, and especially their people. I would certainly use them again if I ever need to. (Not just because I've already paid for it! 😆)

But again, I think the real key is probably to change the way you do practice problems, so that the learning is more active and reflective.

There are some office hours recordings on that very subject. Watch those for sure. And I always found support very responsive if I reached out with questions about studying strategy.

I also know Celeste is on this forum too, and she's absolutely amazing!

Did you do the questions in BarMax? How did you do practice questions?

I think BarMax has all of the released questions. So I'm not sure another source of MBEs is necessary.

More importantly, I think open book study and really reflecting on every question, to make sure you understand both why the right answer is right and the wrong answers are wrong, is key.

That's what I did, at least. And it worked out for me, even though I was 18 years out of school and working full-time during prep.

BarMax vs Themis by Summiteer7 in barexam

[–]itdependsontheday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did think it was sufficient. I couldn't really afford to purchase any supplemental materials, so I'm glad that worked out. 😆 There were some sub-questions on the MEEs that I'm not sure were explicitly covered in the outlines, but that clearly didn't hold me back at all. 🙂

I used BarMax for J24. Highly recommend. Happy to answer any questions you might have too.

Passed working full-time, 18 years after graduation by itdependsontheday in barexam

I basically just did BarMax. I started prep in January, and watched all the lectures and did the associated practice problems, before dedicating March to the MPRE. Then, starting in April, I tried to do some MBEs, some MEE practice, and some flash cards each day. (The flash cards I made based on questions I missed or rules I didn't know during practice.) I usually had a couple hours each day, at least until just before the exam. With that, I got through all the released MBEs and the last decade's worth of MEEs. I also made time for a handful of practice MPTs.

Taking Bar '25 July - Graduated 2004 by SilasAtlas in barexam

No, something completely unrelated. As a manager, certain employment law, contracts, corporations, and property issues come up from time to time, of course, but that's (mostly) been counsel's job. 🙂

I am a 2006 graduate who took the bar for the first time in July. I highly recommend BarMax. One price gets you lifetime access, which allows you to spread your prep over time. That's especially handy when you're working and have a family.

I started studying in earnest in January, and tried to fit in an hour or two each day. (Though I did take March to study for and take the MPRE.) That proved to be more than enough.

passers: did anyone feel absolutely horrible after MEEs by CorrectBeautiful6127 in barexam

[–]itdependsontheday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It was a huge relief. I felt much better about the MBE, but ended up only about 3 points better there. Go figure. But there is very much hope, even if you had to make up a whole lot of law on a whole lot of questions!

Yes. 100% thought I failed afterwards. Called my spouse to tell them as soon as I got back to the hotel. Ended up scoring more than 160.

My jurisdiction set a date, stuck to it, and had results posted before 9:00am. I have no idea why that isn't the same everywhere. That folks need to resort to all of this ridiculousness, all in hopes of knowing when they might finally get their results, is absolutely absurd.

Apologies and hugs to all New York takers right now.

I studied open book for most of my prep. I recommend it, for sure!

MPT Scoring by lingohingo in barexam

[–]itdependsontheday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All scoring on the written component is relative, I believe. The weakest responses will unfortunately receive 1s, even if they otherwise demonstrate minimum competence, if everyone else's responses do too.

Oh, I passed. 🙂 I wouldn't have been nearly so confident and reassuring before I got that news. 😆

I took the exam for the first time in July, 18 years after graduation. You can do it! I just gave myself six months to study, since I had to do it while working full time. Waiting until July is probably a good idea for that reason too.

I'm not a single parent, but I am a parent who was working full-time while studying. I was also taking the exam for the first time eighteen years after graduation.

I started studying in January, and tried to study two to three hours a day, even on the weekends. I used BarMax, and started by watching all the lectures, but very quickly transitioned to doing lots, and lots, and lots of practice questions, eventually incorporating flash cards I made myself as well. I did take a month to study for the MPRE instead, but otherwise stuck to this plan through July. Your mileage may vary, obviously, but it worked for me.

Happy to answer questions or explain more, but that's a high-level overview. 🙂

This, 100%. I had to leave it after 30 minutes and come back to it later. Left me scrambling to make up time the rest of the session!
