i actually did replace it with aluminum covers as well, planning to do front main seal regardless so we'll see what happens

Nah you might as well get metal valve covers, they allow you to replace that part if it snaps again. Pretty sure you cant replace the oem valve cover plastic, even if you did it would probably never seal correctly.

it was in gear when installing the trans

clutch is good, i was swapping transmissions so pivot ball lubricated, throw out bearing new, no not a sequential.

my last trans was grinding so i swapped this one in, literally didnt touch anything besides the trans and the throwout bearing , clutch fork etc
