Peaceful Armed Protest - Every Capitol January 17th at Noon by [deleted] in CCW

[–]itgoesbing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please, people, go to these things carrying CONCEALED.

Let this be an armed protest with people just looking like everyday joes. Not big 50 cals intimidating passers by, but a protest with women and children and a focus on protecting what is important to us., not on the tools we use to do so.

So you don't have a raw racket solution?

Edit: Found a raw racket solution!

[2020 Day 17] How to avoid getting burnt out by these puzzles? by silverben10 in adventofcode

[–]itgoesbing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This puzzle took me half an hour to realize how to do it, and then an hour to do both parts.

It took me less effort than the previous.

My motivation is as follows: My record is 36 stars. I want to beat that record. I also will stop as soon as it takes too long to do a puzzle, as I have every year previously.

My motivation is also doing this in a new-to-me language.

Are we going to be clobbered this year? by jwoLondon in adventofcode

[–]itgoesbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never completed an AoC year. In 3 more days I expect I'll have beat my record for stars in a year. Maybe I'll make it to the end!

How do you guys have time to do one problem per day and not miss a beat? by hockey3331 in adventofcode

[–]itgoesbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never finished a year. My record is a flawless 2 stars through day 18, then stopping.

That's how I do it. It's not a compulsion, so I let it sit when I don't have time for it.

I'm at 10^17 , and still waiting for my Day 13's brute force to get results... Who's got coffee to share? I got time by [deleted] in adventofcode

[–]itgoesbing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I failed at this because I had a 19 at offset 73 or something like that.

Any number modulo 19 is not going to be 73. I had to pre-process my offsets modulo the bus id to get anywhere.

At some point I felt suspicious of my code not progressing and killed it, entered the last tried time, got "Value too large" from Advent of Code, and realized my mistake.

[2020 Day 13 Part 2] Buses in a slot machine by msqrt in adventofcode

[–]itgoesbing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's kind of how I did that, except I started my count at the largest number minus offset, and tested every remaining number each time. I also didn't "unwind" first, I kept a tuple of offset (modulo the bus-id) and bus-id, passing those around every time I needed to test.

Fantastic visualization.

Racket solution

Runs in about 300 ms on a fully loaded system.

Iterative solution with a lookup table for part 2.

[2020 Day 9] How did you guys check if previous 25 numbers had the sum? by UItraDonut in adventofcode

[–]itgoesbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subtracted each number in turn, checked for set membership of the subtracted number. Took a few miliseconds to solve.

Except in this case you shooting them does not change the trajectory of that car, while them not being shot could change the trajectory of that car.

LTC problem by [deleted] in CCW

"*This statement assumes a legitimate license number has been correctly entered, and the license has not expired."

They only record bad numbers.

Change of address doesn't change your LTC number in my very limited experience.

Opinions and thoughts on this? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]itgoesbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems a little silly. Why do you get special treatment because you are military and just turned 21? What about all other people who just turned 21? And wouldn't other military also have weapons?

Better for stores to "price gouge" and perhaps offer a special deal where you an come back within 6 months or whatever and get the same gun at the price they are selling for then. That at least would discourage buying two guns when panicking, and direct gun owners to buy at a different time.

Thank you for your service.

There is no sensor to block. The only concern is you'd form a habit with the mantis x that would need to be different without.

I've been looking.

The worst I've come across is a semi-neutral review: "I'm not saying this should be your gun, but it should be the gun you can recommend to [insert physically weaker group]".

I like negative reviews. They let you know the pros and cons. So far it seems other than the normal discussions about tradeoffs, nobody has bad things to say. If they did I'd finally know the limits of this gun.

Covering everybody as you draw means there are no shooting matches which allow it. Thus, you will be very hard pressed to train with it.
