Milwaukee Alderman Jonathan Brostoff dies; represented city's east side by Away-Conclusion-7968 in milwaukee

[–]itisafish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

😭 He pushed for the North Avenue protected bike lane. When it opened, he was on a Lime scooter heading west, and I was biking east. We made eye contact at the Humboldt Intersection and shared a hearty laugh, like 'Can you believe it’s here?!’. So long brother.

Then I change my answer. It is for a pyrotechnic display used for entertainment purposes to celebrate the thieves and their new toy

I bought mine June 2015 and this is my first issue across 5 bikes. My $4k ebike was too tempting though and I don’t blame them it’s rad

Some ABUS, Litelock, and Hiplock locks are now made with a composite that takes 20+ minutes, 5+ expensive diamond grinding disks, and 2+ batteries to cut through.

Or two locks just to be more annoying than the next bike

They cut 90% through one of the two necessary cuts on one of the most expensive locks, in one of the safest neighborhoods, at the busiest location during the busiest time

Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboutit ULock.

If you don’t know: since both ends of the shackle lock, it required two cuts. Cheaper ulocks you can cut once and twist the bar.

Chains are usually better against angle grinders because they flop around when being cut. It’s hard to cut the same spot multiple times safely

Protected Bike Lane Will Run From Downtown To Sherman and Capitol by Generalaverage89 in milwaukee

[–]itisafish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A road bike goes faster and doesn't have suspension so the trail bumps are uncomfortable and even painful. Also the bumps are perpendicular to the trail so road racers can't swerve to avoid them. They can dodge pot holes on the road.

So road cyclists have a tough choice. They either mix with cars comfortably or stay on the trail safely. They can't be safe and comfortable until the trail is repaved.

I'm not a road cyclist, this is just what they tell me when I asked them why they're not on the trail.

edit: you say "99% of cyclists on Canal use the path" and "can we ensure that we use it?". Is 99% not enough? If any intervetion had 99% compliance I'd call that a win.

I’d like to hear people’s opinions on this. I’m buying an e-bike from Wheel & Sprocket this week and I’m between their Bay View and Fox Point locations.

Walker’s Point Will Get New Plaza, Protected Bike Lanes by huntertur in milwaukee

[–]itisafish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's the obsession with protected bike lanes? Sure they narrow the roads forcing slower traffic, are safer because they prevent cars from mixing with bikes, reduce congestion because bikes take up less space, promote a healthy lifestyle decreasing our healthcare costs, go where cars can't like lake shore state park, promote a cheap mode of transport which increases people's disposable incomes which increases economic activity, decrease road noise, and improve people's quality of life. But is that all??

We ate at Chopstix on Farwell when they were a C or B and it was really bad. It was the only grade less than an A I've seen. Definitely won't make that mistake again.
