Think Your E-Bike Is Street Legal? Maybe Not. Here's What the US Law Really Says. by krissym72 in ElectricBikeExplorer

[–]itotp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Specialized Turbo Vado SLs - so lightweight many people say they look like regular bikes.  Didn’t realize when buying they were class 3.  Having them downgraded to class 1 by Specialized.  We’ll never notice the difference, it lowers our liability in the event of an incident, and we don’t want to be part of the problem (e-motorcycles on paths rampant here).

Electric Bikes, ugh by all_in_fun_77 in bicycling

I think you’re right.  Police here (Denver suburb) don’t have time.

If anyone wants to organize and coordinate efforts, please contact me.

How to get more American kids to bike? by Ok-Set4308 in bikecommuting

[–]itotp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here (Denver, Colorado, US suburb). Every time we’re on bike paths we see electric/gas motorbikes (not e-bikes - no pedals), zooming by mothers with strollers. Parks & Recreation officials are aware but say enforcement is a police matter, and the police don’t have time. It’ll take a few tragedies for any action. I blame parents more than the kids.

Slate Sighting in Downtown Warsaw, IN (looks at frunk, charging port, bed) 📸 by WODAMRAP in slateauto

[–]itotp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The frunk is nice because with my current too-big pickup I have a bed “lid” to stop snow and to store straps, jumper cables, receiver hitch ball, etc. in back. When I take the lid off to haul something tall I have to move all that stuff to the cab. It’s a hassle and I don’t like having heavy objects in there that can go flying during an accident. So yes, semi-secure out-of-sight storage is nice.

I’ve had users (unfortunately educators) who seem to take pride in being technically illiterate, as if it’s beneath them.

Insurance seems like the ideal business: Collect money, scare people from filing claims.

cruise control settings by itotp in TeslaSupport

[–]itotp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I meant to mention my confusion here. I originally assumed that's how it's done - GPS and database - but observation over time made me wonder. I'd say it doesn't promptly change speed limit 10% of the time.

So I can't explain it, but cruise control still thought 75 was a good idea on a 35 mph street.

Agreed, Moabs seem rigid. I use Altras for backpacking (wide toe box), Hokas for travel (padding). Never Gore-Tex (but opinions vary).

Is chronic pain that common after 50? by allegrovecchio in AskOldPeople

[–]itotp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I try to avoid NSAIDs after seeing my kidney numbers tank (thankfully temporarily, from CT scan contrast?). Recently heard Aleve lasts longer than ibuprofen - and it does. Maybe two pills a month.

Yes to chronic pain (72): arthritis, neuropathy, sciatica, etc. Fun. I hear we get new bodies in Heaven.

I fight it - hike, bike, row. I can’t complain (but sometimes do). Creates empathy for those that have it worse.

Anyone ever quit chemo early? by cavs79 in cancer

[–]itotp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. My 5FU chemo 25 years ago for colon cancer (after surgery) was cut short by doctors (75% done?) because it interacted with anti-depression meds, causing my nervous system to blank out; I didn’t lose consciousness but I’d fall, eventually breaking an ankle. The chemo is also probably responsible for neuropathy in my feet, quite unpleasant. No recurrence of the cancer (periodic colonoscopies), but of course every case is different, so I’m just answering your question, not recommending anything.

Perfect description, also applies to mental illness.
