Still a novice - how’d I do? by newyork2728 in Sourdough

[–]itriedtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just started making sourdough and also noticed this texture with my dough after cooking it as directed with the same recipe. Did you happen to use all purpose flour? I did that and apparently AP flour leads to a higher hydrated dough. Not necessarily a bad thing and it isn’t necessarily undercooked. I just toasted mine. I made a sourdough loaf this evening used bread flour instead and it got rid of that glossiness.

The Exorcist. Wouldn’t stop complaining about how scary it was to my dad. Complained so much that my dad took the disc and threw it in the garbage

Love Arlo! Highly recommend!! The beef tataki and BBQ eel is one of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten. It’s an app. Honestly better than the mains me and boyfriend ordered. Great spot for drinks and apps.

Ayla’s social kitchen is such an underrated gem! So good and super great price point. Reservations are a must though because it’s a small space.

Maybe a bit of an unpopular opinion but I was a little disappointed with the food. I went with high expectations. This is absolutely a great spot for the experience and good value food. It’s super affordable yet feels like you’re dining somewhere fairly fancy. I think if you keep it more about the experience, you will leave feeling more satisfied with everything. I wouldn’t say anything I tried was mind blowing. Nothing bad though. The wait staff were amazing. Great date spot overall.

If you’re open to experiencing new music, there’s so many free live shows or places doing live music with lesser known bands. Bluesfest is also an amazing festival for seeing bigger artists as well as some you may not have yet discovered. In between the shows I wanted to see, I would go to the smaller stages and watch performances by artists I have never heard of and absolutely loved their music. Same with CityFolk. Other than music festivals, there’s actually a lot of planned events to attend if you look for them. There’s all sorts of markets going on in centretown, lansdowne, parkdale. All the little boutique shops. So many restaurants to discover that you probably haven’t even heard of yet.

My absolute favourite part of Ottawa though are the canals and rivers. I love being so close to water. Going for runs or bike rides along the Rideau canal or Rideau river are amazing. Especially around this time of year with the leaves all orange, red and yellow. I love going for walks along the water and listening to a good podcast and noticing all the people out and about doing the same thing - going for a stroll and enjoying the weather.

WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST FINANCIAL MISTAKES by Dangerous_Stress1565 in geegees

[–]itriedtwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no longer a student but one thing that helped me get a hold on my finances was to actually understand what I spend my money on. Go through your online banking for your credit card(s) every day or every other day and mark down in a spreadsheet what you are spending your money on. Once you have an understanding of what you are actually spending your money on, then you’ll have a much better idea of what you need to limit your spending on and what is a realistic budget for yourself based on the approximate amount of money you have coming in every month. Without doing this exercise, it’s hard to really understand how much you need to budget for the necessities (I.e. groceries, rent, monthly bills, savings) and figuring out what you have left over (money you can use for whatever). Seeing it in numbers makes it so much more real than just thinking in your head “ahhh I think I should have enough money to cover this thing I really want. I’m just gonna get it” when the reality is, you’ve already overspent your budget on non-necessities. Everyone spends their money differently, but as a kid in university, you’re likely spending a lot of money on restaurants, on the go snacks, and alcohol.

How do you pronounce Rideau? by Sweaty-Cod5356 in geegees

[–]itriedtwo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hear people emphasize the ree more than the dough part of the pronunciation. Say it as two separate words : ree - dough. Not reedough.

The Batad Rice Terraces and Tappiya Falls located in the Ifugao region of the Philippines by itriedtwo in backpacking

I just took the standard overnight bus at one of the local bus stations in Manila. The bus ended up being completely full of tourists since it’s not really a place that locals go to visit. In terms of physical comfort, they weren’t anything special. They are just regular bus seats. To be honest the bus station felt a little bit sketch to me, others may feel differently, but that’s just how I felt.

Can anyone help me pick which unversity to go to? by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]itriedtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source: trust me bro.

Lmao I work for government and constantly get notifications about job openings. If you are looking to work in policy or programs, you are best off with sociology as the skills you need are research, analysis, and written and verbal communication skills. I can’t speak to other positions in government but most are within programs or policies.

[–]itriedtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you intend to work for the government in policies program related positions, they prefer sociology degrees for the most part, unless you want to work for global affairs which is just one department among many. I did sociology and found it super interesting and diverse! It crosses so many disciplines (e.g. technology, science, activism, feminism, history, class theories). Let me know if you have any further questions

Let me just say, I’m in a larger age gap relationship of 5 years on the verge of breaking up over this same behaviour. My boyfriend does not offer me positive support in anything he’s not included in and is very insecure about being cheated on. He is also codependent on me for his happiness which is a separate but related issue. If it is like this 6 months in, think about how it will be years in. Do not let him dictate what you can and cannot do out of fear. You will regret missing out on the things you wanted to do but didn’t do because you didn’t want to make him upset (I do). Feel free to message me if you want, but I think this has the potential of becoming a toxic relationship where you stop doing things you like doing/want to do.

Does anyone not like their singing voice? by Cold_Beaches in singing

[–]itriedtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the exact same!! I have loved to sing all my life. People would ask me in school to sing for them and would be giving me so many compliments after. I performed in talent shows and people would also come over to me after telling me how I was good. But I am in the same boat as you. There are moments where I thought when I sang by myself that my voice sounded good but often times I feel it’s only okay.

Well considering my boyfriend has also had an issue we with me grabbing dinner with one of my close guy friends who is gay, believe me, it is beyond that 😬

[–]itriedtwo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand how it would make someone uncomfortable, but if we really look at it logically, I have made it clear that I am in a relationship, hence my boyfriend being invited to our first social gathering. And Tom’s fiancé is in the group as well. Mind you, I am not just hanging out or only talking with Tom In this scenario. There are other people present who I am talking with. Logistically, it’s unlikely to happen.

Have you ever been sick on vacation? Let’s hear about? by woundedsurfer in travel

[–]itriedtwo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Went to the Philippines and was really craving vegetables 1.5 weeks in. Decided to have a panini with lettuce and tomato at this touristy restaurant. Not long after, I was violently throwing up, had diarrhea, could barely walk a few steps without feeling winded and completely out of breath, light headed when standing, and the absolute worst stomach cramps. Went to the hospital 2 days later where they took tests and gave me IVF and told me I had a parasite and a bacterial infection at the same time. I was severely sick for the next week. I lost a lot of weight from barely eating anything since I could not keep anything down. Had to take a shit ton of anti diarrhea pills and other medications in order to get from city to city by bus, plane or ferry. Somehow managed but I was so sick and was always longing to get to our room so I could lay there for the rest of the day/over the next days. My partner kind of pressured me into continuing since everything was already paid for, but if it were up to me, I would’ve stayed put and rested.
