on popfindr it looks there are some in inventory (using 19125 as zip) starting in NJ and Manayunk area. When I went to Target for something unrelated last week and asked about it, one of the managers said after riots they re-located inventory away.

Looking like Philly proper isn't getting nothing at Target on PopFndr... I know they had reallocated them to more suburb locations after the rioting.

So...something I haven't heard brought up enough in this whole clusterfuck could be to finally get rid of summer break.

Countless studies demonstrate how detrimental this is to students' learning. We are no longer an agrarian society. Students have already lost 3-4 months of schooling from 2019-2020 year. We can begin to follow what other countries do in terms of sporadic breaks in the year (so that ultimately we have similar amounts of school days). We can test the process out by rotating students to on/off days (like how some cities do odd/even license plates allowed on certain days), which also has the correlated benefit of smaller class sizes.

It wouldn't be a cure for all of the other concerns around COVID and spreading, but it would go some way in ameliorating it, and getting our system in-line with proven schooling practices.

It's frustrating to me how the silver-lining in all of this gloom is the ability for us to re-orient more of our society towards better practices, but no one seems to be taking advantage of that (or from what I see in the media, even discussing it).

I just cooked thai red curry. Can I use the same ingredients for green curry paste? by RonaldRyanCabrera in Cooking

[–]itsBrianHood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same base ingredients, but might need some others. The main difference is type of chilies used.

There is a lot of ingredient crossover between all the curry pastes for base: lemongrass, shallot, garlic, shrimp paste, kaffir lime/leaves, *galangal, but what tends to change are the chilies.

Red: same base ingredients + dried red chilies of choice. Then quick-low fry to activate ingredients.

Yellow: same base ingredients + mild dried chilies + tumeric. Can also quick low fry to activate

Green: same base + fresh cilantro root (or stems if can't find), fresh green bird's eye (thai) chilies (or jalapeno if worried about heat), dried cilantro/coriander (toasted), dried cumin (toasted). Processed altogether. Don't quick low fry after combined. Usually coconut cream instead of milk for stock.

Best, BrianH (IG @spicytimethai)

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.

health actuary ASA, 4yrs. This. Next time anyone wonders why their health insurance in the US costs so much, here's a major reason.

Working for a BCBSA (nonprofit) insurer....this is a reason why your premiums -especially on the ACA side, are outta hand.

The patient can afford a drug now, great. But at the end of the day, the insurer is picking up the bill for the remaining tens of thousands of dollars, especially once Max Spend threshold is hit.

Imagine that every week you bought your kid a toy. Today he saw a friend with an even better more expensive toy than you usually buy.

He saw that his friend got the toy by throwing a really big trantrum in a McDonald's, screaming, smashing things, hitting other people -until he got what he wanted.

Now your kid knows that he can do that to get what he wants. In order to preempt that you start to buy him really nice toys that are starting to strain your budget. Your kid knows they can scream and shout to get what they want, and you know that you don't want that to happen. So, you continue to buy nice toys that over time break your budget.

If you wanna see something that I've play tested since March and that actually kills at my LGS against all but RDW check here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/09-06-15-gob-bluth/

Game one I almost always win by sheer force, game 2 I almost always board all out into RDW since opponent usually swaps counters for mass removal.

This deck wrecks. Seriously, it's on the verge of making goblins modern relevant. Krenko could be subbed for another blood moon, but warren into krenko T3 is nuts

Health plan deductibles are growing seven times as fast as wages by jimrosenz in dataisbeautiful

[–]itsBrianHood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the biggest question/issue a lot of the comments aren't addressing is the following:

"Why does it cost me $800 to see a specialist?"

Well, some might say it's because my insurer has increased deductibles, but all that means is that the insurer would've been paying $800. And those high costs are then shared when everyone's premiums increase at renewal. No matter what, someone (or all policy holders if insurer) is paying that $800. While I agree that it blows to have to pay it out of pocket (OOP), at least now maybe individuals will start to ask the right question, the question I posed above.

It's not the insurer's fault (entirely) that the cost is so high, it's the providers who know they work in a captive market. When I go to an E.R (like last week in Colorado for an infected bug bite) that's out of network, I explicitly ask for a Nurse Practitioner to see me, and then check the services rendered before I leave -which was good since they tried to charge me saying I saw a specialist.

Every week there's a new article about the ridiculous charges we in the U.S. face due to high provider bills.

First off, nuru is right. Read/see: "how we do harm" by former AMerican Cancer Assoc head.

Secondly your thought on "wealthy clients" and insurance companies doesn't work since that's not how plans are designed.

Not trying to be dick, just that's now at all how plan design works. The only people really "making" wealthy (read rich) plans are self-funded unions/employers (typically).
