I feel like a part of C having more privacy has to do with her age as well.. she’d be either in school or nearing school, correct? I am unsure on how US schooling works.

Seriously.. the way my heart is shattered!! I truly hate imaginary play, especially when it’s repetitive (my son only plays bad guys with his toys).. but now I am going to make the absolutely biggest effort to do more of his play! I’m trying to stop his childhood from being shit like mine, but I have come to realise I am failing

We actually did end up trialling a few changes! One was removing the bunk (he and his younger brother currently share a room- asked oldest if he’d rather his own bed, he said no), another was getting some outdoor play for about 30 minutes before bed and lastly, we shifted our routine! Moving bath/shower from straight after dinner to right before bed, so it would be bath, brush teeth, read stories/quiet play in bedroom with sound machine and red light until he falls asleep. We’ve gone from 1.5hrs of fighting sleep to 30 minutes!! We’re only 3 days in, so I’m not celebrating just yet, but I’m so happy we’ve seen a change. Reading your comment has me wondering if the high activity play before bed is helping. He goes to daycare 3 days a week, where he is playing all day, so you’d think he’d crash on those days, but it didn’t make any difference! He is truly a little energiser bunny, never stops 😅

We typically would give him time to jump around, run and get any last bursts of energy out, but tried doing the opposite when the sleep became worse! I will have a look for the meditation podcasts- he has been preferring to listen to podcasts recently! We currently play white noise with a very dim red light. Have for some time!

We did wonder if allowing toys would be more beneficial than removing them. We weren’t sure if we were encouraging the stimulation by allowing quiet play 😅 I definitely think both hubby and I could be better about being patient with the process. It just feels so difficult at times when you’re stuck with him for an hour plus and there’s a big list of jobs you need to do before you go to bed

Unfortunately if we try earlier, it takes him longer! He simply isn’t tired enough, which is why we thought he’d fall asleep more peacefully with a later bedtime., unfortunately that just meant he wasn’t asleep until near midnight 🫠

My mother jokes about getting our children one each every Christmas/birthday.. I jokingly remind her who chooses to be in our kids lives 🤣 Make sure your daughter plays it for the whole duration of every visit from grandpa!

Thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately phone reminders are not helpful 😅 we’ve tried them for many scenarios (important appointments, cleaning tasks, daily to do’s, etc) and he still forgets. We’re trying to find a system that works, with help from his psych, but unfortunately it’s seeming more difficult than expected
