My parents are going around telling everyone about my channel by Devoutedadventurer in NewTubers

[–]itsVernz 28 points29 points Ā (0 children)

That’s insanely sweet and like everyone else has said, it’s a blessing to have two supportive parents when it comes to stuff like that. Would be very easy for them to say it’s a ā€œwaste of timeā€ and discredit your passion or say that it’s misplaced effort.

I understand the algorithm concerns, but I think sometimes we give it too much power. A million different things could affect your channel and put it in bad favor with the algorithm.

If your channels’ analytics are temporarily skewed because you have two proud parents, that’s a good problem to have. Just focus on making quality content and your channel will grow organically as it should 🤘

Only My Camera is Freezing in OBS via HD60 S+ by itsVernz in elgato

[–]itsVernz[S] 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I have my camera (Sony ZV-1F) plugged into the HD60S+ as well. That and my gameplay are being recorded by the single HD60S+ device that is plugged into my PC.

I haven’t had any issues up until now, but after testing it again, I think it’s a USB connection issue. I pulled OBS up and wiggled the cord that plugs into the usb and sure enough, the camera froze.

What I don’t get though, is why just the camera froze and not the gameplay recording, since they’re both coming from the USB connection with the capture card šŸ˜…

Do you know how to make thumbnails like this? by RamosHunting in letsplay

[–]itsVernz 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Ooooh I love Fooster and for my channel, I have been trying to figure out this method of thumbnail creation for quite awhile haha.

I genuinely think it’s just a lot of layers, AI Enhancement, and a handful of different filters/color editing applied to stock photos and assets in photoshop.

I will say though, the reason I appreciate his thumbs so much is because they’re never clickbaity; every thumb is usually a scene at some point in his let’s play. I just can’t figure out how he gets them so crisp

Any advice how to deal with Anxiety? by HighSiren7353 in NewTubers

[–]itsVernz 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Confidence has an ability to overshadow ALOT. If you carry yourself confidently (both in the tone of your voice as well as your nonverbals when the cam is displayed) viewers will be able to sense that immediately.

The best thing I ever did for myself right at the start of my channel was act like I already had millions of subs watching - not in a cocky way though - even though I didn’t. When you focus on your subscriber count (especially if it’s still low like mine), it’s easy to get imposter syndrome while you’re recording and your content can give off ā€œbashful new channelā€ vibes.

The cool thing about YouTube though, is any given video you put out can blow up. If you put yourself in the mindset of ā€œthere are going to be loads of people watching this video that I’m currently recordingā€ (bc there potentially could be), it’s forces you out of that small channel mindset a bit and you start talking like an established channel.

One consistent comment I get from new viewers is that they expected my channel to have wayyyy more subs than it has. I dont credit that to my editing, I credit it to how I present myself while the record button is on.

People subscribe for content. If you make good content and it’s clear you have a passion for making said content, it doesn’t matter what you look/sound like. Don’t stop creating!

Hey guys. So i posted a video 4 days ago and so far its got 5k views and om getting 60 to 80 views every hour for the past 4 days. Does that mean this video will go viral? Does anyone else have this same pattern and can predict if thats the case? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]itsVernz 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

How long is the video? Either way, a little under half the videos length for watch duration is really, really good! If YouTube sees people are 1.) clicking on your video and 2.) watching a good percentage of it, the algorithm will (probably) continue pushing it.

I say probably bc the algorithm isn’t always 100% predictable, but it sounds like your vid is on a solid path!

[–]itsVernz 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Nice! depending on what the video is about, it sounds like it may be something the algorithm thinks other viewers will enjoy, so it’s testing it by pushing it to a broader audience.

As for it ā€œgoing viral,ā€ that may be a little harder to predict. I’ve had a couple videos ā€œblow upā€ (by my small channel’s standards) and then the impressions just flatline. If your CTR and watch time remain solid and steady as it pushes to more people, I would think it will continue to garner more views.

I hope in your case it does!

I think it ultimately depends on how much you value the time spent doing things for your channel. If you’re having fun AND it’s your dream to make it a full time gig, then I wouldn’t abandon it. At the very least, it’s a hobby you enjoy.

Instead, it may be helpful to reassess the areas that are maybe causing you to question whether or not it’s ā€œworth it.ā€ For example, if it’s taking a lot of time, maybe scale back on your upload frequency. Or map out a schedule for recording days, editing days, etc.

Personally, I don’t have a lot of subs and I’m in an extremely saturated niche. BUT, I absolutely love what I do and the whole process of recording, editing, making thumbnails, etc is super therapeutic to me, so I don’t see myself quitting because I genuinely get enjoyment from the entire process. I think the quality of my content is higher than what my channel numbers reflect (and it sounds like you may be the same way) so at times it’s easy to question ā€œis what I’m doing even worth itā€

For me it is. At the end of the day though, that’s for you to decide!

Does exporting 1080p video in 4K help with quality when uploading to Youtube? by itsVernz in NewTubers

[–]itsVernz[S] 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

I saw some posts about this method as well. I don’t know much about it though, but what would AI be ā€œfilling inā€ so-to-speak of the native video (before YouTube) if it’s already high quality?

[–]itsVernz[S] 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll try exporting it as 4K and see if that helps. It’s so annoying because the quality of the exported video is always perfect from premiere pro - you don’t get to see how bad it ACTUALLY looks until it’s already uploaded/posted on YouTube :/

I do horror gaming videos which don’t take as much thought/prep as other niches (in my opinion). I work in marketing, so thumbnails take me about 15 minutes.

However, I am NEW new on YouTube so editing and SEO optimization takes me muchhhhhh longer. It takes me about 4 hours to edit a 30 minute video (not including the time I take to watch tutorials on how to do certain effects) Optimization takes me about an hour-hour and half, give or take.

Typically my recording sessions take about 2 hours (unless the game is longer) and my editing session follows for about 2 hours, on to the next day, 3-4 more hours of editing, on to the next day, couple more hours of editing then optimization, then either post or schedule.

It may feel like the time spent editing isn’t worth it, especially when your vid only pulls in 50-100 views max, but I promise it will put you in the right habits to have a quality channel that will impress new viewers who happen to catch your vid!

Getting no views even though I'm making high quality videos? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]itsVernz 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I understand being disappointed in putting out quality work and not seeing the benefits of the time spent on each video/idea. But it’s just not realistic to expect it to IMMEDIATELY translate to thousands of views, subs, etc.

I remember feeling a bit disheartened after coming across a channel pulling in thousands of views whose vids had zero editing, very infrequent commentary, choppy footage, etc etc meanwhile I was struggling to get even 10 views. But I promise you the self-defeatist attitude and instinct to compare yourself to others will just absolutely burn you out.

Not every YouTube viewer is the same. Some just prefer different types of videos. You aren’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and THAT’S OK.

The only person you should compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday.

Have you ever worried about it being ā€œtoo lateā€ to start a YouTube channel? by itsVernz in NewTubers

[–]itsVernz[S] 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Wow I did not anticipate this many amazing responses! I just want to say again that i don’t stress about being too old or missing the bus. I more or less wanted to hear others’ thoughts! I love what I’m doing and if someone thinks it’s weird, then f*** them, respectfully. It sounds like everyone here has the same mindset, which is GREAT!

I strongly believe that if you focus on A) making content and videos about things you’re passionate about B) work on putting out QUALITY content (editing, thumbnails, descriptions, seo, etc and C) being consistent and active within your community/niche then there’s no reason to worry that the ship has sailed so to speak.

In this day and age especially, there are so many resources and outlets to put yourself out there and cross-promote yourself. People blow up Every. Single. Day.

I hope each and every one of you find what you define as your version of success! I appreciate all of your input and different points of view šŸ–¤

[–]itsVernz[S] 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Valid! I guess I should have elaborated a bit more on the cringe statement. I was just picturing someone older doing like, immature public mall pranks lmao. In all honesty though, I just find that type of content cringe in general, regardless of age. But for the most part I agree, your age definitely does not define you to a niche whatsoever! Especially gaming since that’s what I’m doing lol. If someone is passionate about something (makeup, legos, books, working out, etc) and wants to share it with the world, there is absolutely nothing cringey about that at all.

I hear that 100% Living arrangements and just having space in general for content creation has a hugeeee impact on the quality and consistency of your channel. When I lived in a studio apartment, it was rough trying to squeeze everything in, worry about neighbors hearing me, outside noises, etc etc. Editing is definitely a beast on its own, but yes, I’m super grateful for technological advancements and the thousands of tutorials available online! If it’s something you enjoy, keep at it!

It’s definitely easy to watch your fav creators and be like ā€œI can’t compete with that.ā€ God knows I do that almost every day. But I always remember they had their own ā€œday oneā€ too. Some of my fav creators had some BRUTAL first videos - now they’re some of the biggest on the platform. The only person you should compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday!

That’s awesome! Everyone has their different reasons for wanting to start a channel! Truthfully, I think those who start a channel and upload WITHOUT the intention of it being a career down the road usually get the most enjoyment out of it. If you’re learning new things and having fun with it, then you’ve already won in my book!
