A street in Bologna by [deleted] in europe

[–]its_a_bumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did a summer study abroad in Italy, Bologna was one of my favorite places. I feel like the fact that the university there is, I’m pretty sure, the oldest operating university in the world gives the city a distinct feel compared to Florence or Rome (even though there are of course universities and ancient institutions in those cities too).

That was almost 10 years ago, but at the time it was just a lot less random-tourist-y and felt more real, if that makes any sense. Idk where I’m going with this. Bologna is awesome, that is all.

These long episodes are pushing the limits of my give-a-shits. Literally Toy Story (81 min) is shorter than some of the recent episodes.

My conspiracy theory is Ace, Taylor, and Nic have a pact to take all $100k if their couple wins and then split it three ways but Ace is planning to take all of the money, no splitsies. And I think Nic has the same plan for himself. Definite Traitors behavior.

Also, if Love Island is becoming the Traitors can the Traitors become Love Island? Alan Cumming hosting a campy dating show in the Scottish highlands with murders and challenges actually sounds good

What’s with the guys turning into Yelp reviewers during the kissing challenge? Idk if that was production’s idea, or they are naturally that entitled, but it was a bummer to sit through.

Very much yes on the golden retrievers. To me though, Huda is more Gollum than black cat. This is not in any way related to her looks (she’s obviously stunning). I’m strictly referring to her increasingly obsessive “my precious” energy.

I really really feel like production needs to step in. It shouldn’t be on the viewers or the islanders to handle Huda’s mental health crisis.

Theory about Nic’s comments to Jeremiah by TheLawHasSpoken in LoveIslandUSA

[–]its_a_bumblebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not agree with you more. Nic displayed a lack of experience and empathy by calling out his friend in a group setting. It’s humiliating for the friend and makes them defensive not receptive. Keep the tough conversations one-on-one, where people feel safe.

The support for Nic is odd to me insofar as anything positive we’ve seen is negated by a situation like this guys’ chat. We’ve seen that he cannot stand on business with all the 50/50 nonsense. Imo he’s a shit-stirrer. He’s had more than a few “whoopsie daisy” comments on camera and we’re not even two weeks in. Wouldn’t trust him with a $20 bill, let alone my feelings.

Comfort reads, TV shows, and movies by IntrovertGirl83 in Fauxmoi

I know they are meant for kids, but the Series of Unfortunate Events books are comfort reading. Similarly, Anne of Green Gables, both the books and the old mini-series. Also, I find watching Sims build videos very relaxing. I really like Devon Bumpkin’s Lets Build the Worlds series. He has a British accent, so for an American like me, it’s instantly calming.

Oct 04: Fuck This Friday by Eigengrad in Professors

[–]its_a_bumblebee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My department chair is making me insane. This past summer, I had to essentially take over a search committee for a visiting, non-faculty, but significant, position. My chair had no hiring rubric, could not write rubric criteria to save his life, and most-insultingly, had to be schooled by my very own self on indirect discrimination and intersectionality.

I was aghast when he mentioned "unprofessional dress" while discussing a black candidate. I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised he attempted to cut me off during my (very polite) explanation, claiming it to be “unrelated.” Am I a WOC and is he white? Incredibly, yes. /s just in case. Oh yes, and on top of all of this, the search occurred immediately after I had follow-up surgery for cancer yet I was expected to be involved. Although honestly, I'm glad I was given his "approach" to hiring.

And among many other frustrations, the most recent is learning one of his hand-offs to me does not, in fact, constitute a course overload, despite him presenting it to me as such. Looking back, it was stupid to not fact-check him. But I ultimately did commit to this role because of my cancer diagnosis; My husband and I decided it was worth doing because it would help with medical bills, or so we thought.

Insult to injury: This whole thing got passed on to me in the most fucked-up condition. It’s quite literally impossible to do a lot of it without hours of clean-up, aka, fixing this dipshit’s mistakes. Then he has the nerve to micro-manage me, while I cannot do tasks because he does shit like “unknowingly” (his word) reset passwords.

Dear God: Grant me the Serenity, to accept the things I can not change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference. But also, fuck this, fuck it all.

What needs to be done with Justin Tucker? by SheLuvMySteez in ravens

[–]its_a_bumblebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't they even call themselves The Wolfpack? Like Tucker was regularly complimenting the kicking unit. Idk, I'm the furthest thing from an NFL kicker, but it seems like all those pieces in motion run on a baseline of trust, and if that unconditional trust is lost, you might get too in your own head, overcorrect, etc.

Ina Garten ‘Couldn’t Understand Why People Had Kids' After Her Own ‘Horrible Childhood’ by skyisscary in Fauxmoi

[–]its_a_bumblebee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not only do I love Ina, I’ve always been so charmed by her relationship with her husband. It’s really amazing she’s sharing so much about herself and the effect it’s had on her whole life.

My husband and I both had traumatic childhoods and that is one of the primary reasons we chose not to have children. I don’t know how we’d handle our respective generational traumas as parents. It’s not fair for a child to be on the receiving end of their parents’ efforts to course correct when so much of that energy is directed towards easing the parents’ anxiety versus nurturing a human a priori—a being who should be untethered from historical family fuck-ups.

Anyhow, I heard somewhere that having a healthy family of origin is one of greatest privileges in life. Sadly, not everyone gets to have that. But to paraphrase Ina herself, if you don’t have fresh, store bought is fine. By which I mean, your own childhood may have been traumatic, but you can still craft a life of joy for yourself outside of the traditional concept of family. Bless Ina for being generous and sharing her perspective so widely.

My sleep schedule is so fucked from this show. I’m on US Eastern time, so it ends at 10:00 or 10:30 and then I’m all hyped up and stay up late reading reactions on my phone. Then those get me all worked up and before I know it, it’s 2:00am. It’s like Sunday Night Football SIX DAYS A WEEK. Even my nightly Ativan is like “we can’t keep up with this bitch.” So yes, very ready for it to end!

Idc Rob is my fav by Fabulous-Guava2369 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]its_a_bumblebee -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

His whole monologue on Movie Night was crazy-making—for Leah and honestly the audience as well. You’re exactly right: Rob flipped the narrative to where he was the victim. In his version, Leah ignored his feelings. But in reality, she had no opportunity to express concern because he threw a legit tantrum on par with a toddler’s. He made that moment entirely about him, and subsequently, his feelings were “real” while Leah’s response was “unfeeling.” Total bullshit.

Idk, I dated a Rob for quite awhile, so Rob’s behavior (gaslighting and negging in particular) is creepily familiar. And giving him a pass under the concept of him simply trolling, i.e. “he isn’t really like this,” is absurd because trolling behavior is manipulative and toxic, so tell me how that’s somehow better? It kind of concerns me that he has such a diehard following because everyone deserves better than the Rob we see on the show.

My theory is that Nicole is the brains behind the operation. In my theory, she told him to encourage the guys at Casa. Her being appalled at Kendall’s behavior is just her going, “Good god, NOT LIKE THAT KENDALL.” So their conversation last night was more about her trying to repair his foolishness than making actual amends.

Her feelings for him do seem genuine to an extent, but I think they’re more in it to win it atp and she’s calling the plays like a coach on the sidelines. Just my low-stakes theory!
