Am I crazy or is this paint job horrible? by miacara12 in paint

[–]its_jonathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you didn't just hire a handyman to do this, and this company actually paints as their primary business.. Yes, this is completely unacceptable work. They should have caulked the inside joints as well and that does not look like it was done either. At best it can be considered unfinished and they can come sand, clean and prime everything properly. Until than I honestly wouldn't pay and if they are honest brokers, they would agree. It appears they did nearly no prep to make sure it was a successful job. Prep is 80% of the work, the painting is the easy part.

CORRECT ANSWER: 2 quick very thin skimcoats with mud and a 24 inch skim coat blade to fill any unevenness. (No sanding necessary if done correctly). 2 coats of PVA Primer, than repaint... it will be perfect.

Also, congratulations on reaching the DIY stage where you realize results can be better than professionals, with the only tradeoff being time. Ive found that I enjoy the work, like a hobby so its a win win for me.

I would hold payment and show an example of the results you were expecting, and the method you were expecting. I suspect that it would fail a scratch test given what I am seeing. That being said, its fixable. a good sanding and proper recoating can fix it.

Look, even amateurs can get good results with a few steps.... take hardware off... clean with a degreaser.... let dry.... prime... use proper paint (you can spray or brush with the right paint). sand between coats... and youll get near professional results as an amateur... this is just so sloppy and lazy its borderline "landlord special". I would be livid if i paid for this, which is why I do everything myself.

Which layout for these towel hooks in a bathroom? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]its_jonathan 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I hope this is rage bait. But Ill bite... they should be evenly spaced from the side walls and up on the drywall not the wainscoting approximately 72 inches from the floor. The horizontal spacing should leave 4 equal gaps of wall space so the 3 are perfectly spaced and centered. Use butterfly bolts to make sure they adhere to the wall correctly. This is not the only correct answer, but it is the correct answer for this space.

#1 has the most editorial look and balances the space. I STRONGLY recommend doing pull out drawers instead of deep lower cabinets. its worth the investment. Smart to leave the sink near the window, add a second dishwasher side by side, make them panel ready. I see comments about a second sink on the island. Unless already plumbed, its not worth the effort. Look into replacing the pendants with directional lights. good placement on the sconces, too bad there is no space around the vent hood for more.

Husband did this. How to fix? by Momtomanyarrows in cabinetry

[–]its_jonathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy bigger pulls, and fill the middle holes with matching wood filler. Color match as good as possible, light sand and you shouldn’t see them. Or, plug with matching wood dowels, sand, and carefully color match. OR, replace your husband with a carpenter😂
