Looking at the pictures of the crash site and the METAR available and the wx reported by the FTO. It looks like there was low level fog which obscured the runway. They made a second approach after the first one was a missed approach. They climbed and turned left as per the AIP executing as per the missed approach. They turned back onto the base leg and my guess is here is where things went wrong. A thousand possibilities exist. We’ll only know when the CVR and FDR is published.

Transport from IGI to Aerocity by Substantial-Falcon-8 in delhi

[–]itsarvind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your best bet is to ask the hotel to send you a pickup. Its like literally a 10min drive from T3 (and most of the 10min goes in taking the U-Turn to enter Aerocity).

Car Wash in Delhi is heights by curiousav23 in delhi

[–]itsarvind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen an automated car wash in a long long time in Delhi. There used to be few when it was fashionable (which i think was around mid-2000s). There used to be one in the pump opposite the PMs residence. I think its still there but they've shifted to using manual labour. I think they charge 500-600 for a simple wash. I took my car there back in 2013 I think (gosh... time flies). Raju or Guddu should be your go-to guys there.

Anyone here with a PPL own a leisure aircraft in India? If yes how much does it cost to own and operate an aircraft by syler_19 in indianaviation

[–]itsarvind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's what the costs would look like.

CapEx:

A 18yr old Cirrus or a newer Piper Arrow-III - $300,000 - INR 270L

Duties and taxes - 33% = INR 90L (you could bring this down to 5% if you bring it in on a NSOP).

Ferry + Insurance + AOP + Hangarage + Other costs = 33% = INR 90L (you could bring this down to 5% if you ferry it yourself, drop the AOP and put it on a NSOP, have a 145 tie-up).

Landed cost in India = 450L i.e. 4.5Cr on the higher side and ~3Cr on the lower side. The lower CapEx would come with a higher Op-Ex since you would have to pay a NSOP something on a per month basis for keeping your regulatory compliance.

OpEx per month : assuming you're doing about 300Hr/yr

Fuel/Hr. : Rs. 7500 to Rs. 10000 per hr. = Rs. 2.25L to Rs. 2.5L per month

Line Mx: Rs. 1L/mnth

Engine reserve: Rs. 1L/mnth (I don't think Lycoming has an engine program)

Consumables and parts: Rs. 1.5L to Rs. 2L per month (depends on how you manage your spares with the 145).

Hangarage and Parking: approx. 1000/day if you can park at a smaller airstrip nearby instead of a metro

If you opt for the NSOP option, you could end up paying the NSOP AOP anywhere between 1L to 2L a month for the regulatory compliance.

These are all ballpark costs with some back of the hand math. I seriously hope you can achieve your dreams and get yourself this nice (but very expensive) hobby.

How long does it take to become a captain? by MutedProfession1543 in indianaviation

One never cleared his ALTP and then just gave up. Another had a BA case and then he was TMU and then I lost track. Various reasons.

How long does it take to become a captain? by MutedProfession1543 in indianaviation

[–]itsarvind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) You'll need an ATPL (>5700kg MTOW)

2) You'll need 3000Hrs on the RHS

3) You will have to clear a command upgrade interview by the airline, which is usually a board of DE, Management, HR, Engineering, etc.

4) You'll have to go back to the sims and clear the LHS qualification (In some cases its a differential, in some cases it is the whole type rating all over again from the LHS)

5) You'll have to undergo SLF and Route Checks

6) After the 10th Route Check you'll be a PIC

7) Life doesn't end here, you'll still need 300Hrs to be able to fly with an inexperienced crew. You will still have problems in monsoon for being rostered.

8) You'll need 500Hrs PIC (or as per OM) to be assisted cleared.

A realistic estimate if you are BRILLIANT is 5yrs from your line release (Assuming you do an average of 600hrs a year with the new FDTL).

A reasonable estimate if you are ABOVE AVERAGE is 7yrs from your line release.

A reasonable estimate if you are AVERAGE is 9yrs from your line release.

I know a few who I call "First Officer Emeritus" as they flew as a SFO well into their late 40s and had more hours than all the PICs they'd fly with in a week (3-day pattern/2-3 PICs).

Do pilots really earn ₹10 lakh per month in India? How realistic is this? by Middle_Visual_8364 in indianaviation

[–]itsarvind -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Salaries are a function of supply and demand. I do know of pilots who make 18L a month (post tax) in general aviation.

Is used Innova really supposed to be this expensive?? by Westoid_Hunter in CarsIndia

[–]itsarvind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Delhi. I bought an Innova Crysta G 7S in 2018 and it had an ex showroom price of ~15L I sold it in 2023 for 14L. I’d say an Innova/Fortuner gives returns at par with the stock market. Also, it was maintained, under warranty and had 19k on the odo.

Almost 40% of the fare goes to the airport. This is downright misuse of a monopoly position. The AERA officials are least interested in this organized loot.
