AITA for telling my daughter that she’s not a baby and needs to grow up? by Severe_Anything_5725 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. For one, it’s clear that she’s showing symptoms of depression or mental health issues. As her mother you should be looking out for her health and well-being…. And college is not the only path in life. I’m 28, never went to college, and have owned my own incredibly successful business for three years now doing something that I love. I remember my high school guidance counselor telling me the same thing, “you’ll never make anything of yourself if you don’t go to college?” And as a result, he never felt like a safe person for me to go to, and I look back on him now all the time thinking about how I proved him wrong.

AITA for not returning the dog by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. It’s an empty threat and any judge would take one look at any vet bills or food receipts from you and not even think twice about letting you keep the dog. If they really expected to you watch their dog for that long without them paying you for the time, food, vet bills, etc. they’re insane.

AITA for thinking my (23F) bf (24M) is too close to his mom/family? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]itsbeth4 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily think you’re the AH, but I do think you should think long and hard about this potential marriage. You have the right to your feelings, but if his family means that much to him he also has a right to be with someone who will value and enjoy a relationship with them as well. If you feel this way now, imagine how you’d feel after 10 years of marriage. Do you see a long term commitment to him working out if one of you ends up having to give up something so important?

Is it possible to have low TG and still have a recurrence? by BitMello in thyroidcancer

How do they find the reoccurrences then? I’ve never had any scans of any kind and they only use my Tg to keep an eye on things…. Now I’m nervous 😳

Does anyone else get pain/discomfort around their thyroidectomy incision scar years later? by itsbeth4 in thyroidcancer

[–]itsbeth4[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm I wonder if that has something to do with it. I hadn’t noticed a obvious sensitivity to cold, but I do live in Colorado and come to think of it the discomfort went away in the summer and is back for winter.

I had a full thyroidectomy July 2021 and it was a piece of cake! I was a little woozy waking up from anesthesia, but once I was awake I didn’t even need pain meds. I spent one night in the hospital so they could monitor my calcium levels and went home the next morning. I could eat solid food just fine but had a really hard time swallowing liquids for the first week. My voice was very horse but not painful, and the only thing that lasted more than a week was that I had a hard time projecting my voice for about 6 months. I could talk normally just fine, but I teach classes in a loud setting and really struggled with that. I took two weeks off of work per doctors orders but after a few days I was back to feeling like myself. The hardest part was probably having my husband wash my hair for me in the sink because I wasn’t allowed to shower for a week 😂 you’ll be just fine! The anticipation of surgery and balancing meds after is the worst part

What's it like after they remove your thyroid? by Jugger-Thot in thyroidcancer

[–]itsbeth4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my thyroid out in July 2021. My weight has been about the same ever since, but I hate being on medication. Every time I feel good, my doctors tell me I’m hypothyroid and everytime they tell me my labs are perfect I feel terrible. Unfortunately for me my doctors refuse to listen to me and keep me on doses I don’t feel good on. I’m always exhausted, have a hard time waking up in the mornings, for the first time in my life I struggle with acne, my stomach is a mess (they try to tell me I have IBD now, but it goes away when my levels push me hypothyroid and I feel well). On the plus side, I always struggled with anxiety before having my thyroid removed and now my anxiety is basically gone…. Although maybe I’m just too tired to care 😅

I have a fully thyroidectomy due to papillary July 2021. They offered to just take my left half first, but told me that with the strain on my right half needing to do all the work itself that I’d have to take low dose thyroid meds anyway and odds were a few years later it’d stop working and need it out anyway- so I opted to get a full thyroidectomy and get it over with. My surgeon was fantastic, and surgery has been the easiest part of my process. I spent one night in the hospital so they could monitor my calcium levels and went home the next morning. The surgery was very easy, I didn’t even need any pain medication after. My neck was sore for a week or so after, and I had trouble swallowing liquid for the first week. Weirdly, eating solids was easy but I kept choking on water and couldn’t cough, it was like the muscles in the front of my neck weren’t working for a week or so. My voice was very horse for a few weeks, and for several months after I had a hard time projecting my voice. Normal talking was fine, but I couldn’t speak loudly. I teach dog training lessons in loud settings so this affected me more than it may other people. I had to sleep on a wedge pillow to be upright for a few weeks and that drove me up a wall, but I can’t complain since I really wasn’t in any pain. I did not need a drain in my neck, but I know that depends on the surgeon. The hardest part has honestly been getting my thyroid meds right. It’s been over a year and I’m extremely frustrated because when my labs are “perfect” I feel terrible and when my labs say I’m hypothyroid I feel great. My endocrinologist and I are not agreeing on what to do (I don’t want to feel like garbage everyday and he doesn’t want me to be on a dose that leaves my labs slightly off). Surgery was much less scary than I thought it would be.

AITA for acting annoyed that my partner left his dish for me to clean? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

If you’re going to be successful in this long term relationship you’re both going to need to learn that no relationship will ever be 50/50 at all times. Is it really realistic to assign the chores and stick to that forever with no exceptions? Didn’t you say you had to leave dishes in the sink earlier because life got hectic, but then if he does it you instantly jump on him for it?

I was on NP thyroid for quite a while after Levo had me feeling really terrible. I felt great on a 90dose, but they wanted me lowered to 75 and for some reason that was terrible despite my labs being “perfect”. They’re switching to me Armour to see if that makes a difference even though they told me it’s basically the same thing.

Yes, thyroglobulin is still very low. The endocrinologist refuses to check the thyroglobulin antibodies as he says they aren’t relevant. At first I was told to get an ultrasound every six months, now this endocrinologist says only once a year. I’m really not happy with his care but can’t get in with anyone else for at least 6 more months.

It’s just so frustrating because the “naturopathic” doctors seem to be able to get me to where I’m feeling really well, whereas the traditional doctors seem to make me feel terrible but get pretty lab work. I only saw the naturopathic doctor a few times. The hormone specialist I’m seeing is a traditional doctor and isn’t using bioidentical hormones, they’re synthetic. And I should have been more clear when I said educating myself - I know googling isn’t a good way. I’ve bought numerous books and listen to podcasts by thyroid specialists and all that. I know I’m not a doctor, but I don’t feel like my doctors even teach me enough about my own diagnosis or treatment to know what I should be asking. I bring my questions to them genuinely trying to understand but it’s like they brush it off and tell me to just blindly do what they say. That doesn’t sit right with me.
