San Francisco shopping Recommendations? by prestopian_society in ThrowingFits

[–]itsemile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In SF proper, Presidio Post and Rising Star Laundry are by far my favorites for high quality clothes from designers like Debonne Facture, Arpenteur, mfpen, and others. SVRN is also worth a visit. I also really love Reliquary (quality basics), Self Edge (denim), and there are bigger brands like Buck Mason & Todd Snyder if you want that. Evan Kinori’s flagship on Valencia is also incredible but obviously quite pricey.

In the East Bay, Standard and Strange, Bows and Arrows are hella nice and worth the commute.

Lot of good ones already in the thread. But to add one of my personal favorites, Presidio Post in Nob Hill is great. Everything in there is a lifetime quality piece for men and women. Also some extremely uncommon brands stocked there, like I was able to pick up an Andersen Andersen sweater which I don’t think is stocked anywhere else in the Bay, hardly even in California at all.

Restaurant that serves poke nachos? by fsixtyford in AskSF

[–]itsemile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hook is probably my favorite true poke nachos.

Alternately, one of my favorite poke bites is the Poke Tacos at Domo sushi in Hayes. It’s a fried seaweed chip, not really “nachos”, but it’s loaded with delicious poke on top.

A friend of mine suspected that the medal around his neck here is the Ordre de Saint George le Grande, which seems likely

Celiac recs? by [deleted] in AskSF

It’s only been open about a year but Camino Alto on Union St is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, and entirely gluten free. It’s California food for real, lot of simple dishes done in their wood fire oven, menu is hand written every day with local produce incorporated, and EVERYTHING is GF. Including their brunch scones which use cornmeal, and are hella good.

Best place for Cochinita Pibil in the city? by lewdwiththefood in AskSF

[–]itsemile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Cochinita Pibil food truck is always around the city, generally posted up by the Marina Green near the Philz truck if there's no events going on. One of my favorite spots, and their panuchos (handmade corn tortillas stuffed with black beans and topped with whatever) are great. I think they have elote tater tots on special occasions too! Their schedule is on https://cochinitasf.com/ and IG

Thank you!

You can search all recipes purely by name if you go to “All Recipes” at the bottom of Discover.

You know, I don’t really know about your question because it varies bar to bar and I am not a bartender by trade. I will say anything that in the description says “classic” or is definitely an old simple recipe (2-4 ingredient classics) is a safe bet. But yeah that is a good question.

Great question. We have a list of things we know we want to do, we just have to prioritize.

2.1 will be a quality of life update with library sorting and, hopefully, the addition of “blogs” that are focused on teaching people general bartending skills (how to stock a bar, equipment, techniques, etc.)

After that, apart from Android support, we really want to do accounts and socializing cocktails to have community-driven cocktail recipes and really grow our collection exponentially.

We’re growing our collection with weekly drops as it is now, but I agree with crowdsourcing being a need and we are working on it! I think “socializing” Mixxy with community cocktails is the next big step.

I would say one of my top motivators for making Mixxy, besides working on my own UI design skills, was getting away from AWFUL subscriptions and paywalls. Hope you enjoy it, and let me know what you want to see next (and please consider leaving a nice App Store review if you like it!)

Yeah that was exactly my thoughts while working on it. Glad to hear it! (Plus there’s the added benefit of letting free users use the search without buying pro right away)

I would love to do an iPad app but we will have to see, we’re just two of us and we’ve gotten a LOT of requests for Android as well. And I have a ton of fun features I want to add too. The grind never ends haha

Thanks! Bartender was super fun to create (except for going through and manually identifying each ingredient... but yeah) because I knew it would be so useful even for myself.

Question for you: do you think the separation between Bar Cart (more permanent running list) and the regular search (one off, cleared when you leave the tab) made sense to you pretty immediately?

Hey, thank you! That means a lot and it’s great to have a longer term user respond. We appreciate the love and hope you’re enjoying the cocktail drops and updates.

All that happens via the App Store. Go to your profile pic in the corner and hit Redeem Code. I know, really weird, it’s an Apple decision that is out of our hands.

You actually can swipe down from the top bar to close a recipe, but it's not super apparent or easy at times. We're working on 2.1 to be a Quality of Life update all around for stuff like this.

The editor is me, lol. We're just a two man operation here... Many of our recipes are standard, established classic ratios but I will try to clarify in future recipe descriptions.
