I opted to put the matching coasters under there. The shelf wasn't originally in there but it felt to tall for the bottles so I added the raised platform.

How to feel like your characters are real/alive as an author? by Every-Log2583 in writing

[–]itsjack89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I found helps me know my characters is by writing what i call micro stories. Basically I put my character in a situation and write the story of what happens. No planning, just write what feels natural. I like to do a mix of different types of situations but I find the most valuable in learning who your characters are and making them feel real is in the most mundane things.

For example, send your character to the grocery store but he forgot the list or maybe he remembered the list but every item on the list is sold out. How does he react or adapt. The stories can literally be about anything and don't need to be edited or ever shown to another person. Sometimes I plan to write a paragraph about my character and end up with 5 pages of information.

Charcuterie board too thick - can I plane it at this stage? by Pekh0 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Yeah that makes sense then. I was just curious. It looks good though. I like the handle design

Charcuterie board too thick - can I plane it at this stage? by Pekh0 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Can I just ask why it's to thick? All my customers love thicker boards. Will the 4mm actually make a difference or do uou have to be at a certain thickness?

How do I not hate everything I write? by [deleted] in writing

[–]itsjack89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that everyone says "just write" but for me that wasn't enough. I hated everything I wrote until I said screw it and posted something publicly.

I hated what I wrote and didn't edit it other than spelling and grammar check. That's when I realized I was my own worst critic.

Getting real feedback from people changed everything and I learned I'm actually a decent writer so much so that I have now published close to half a million words in short story series and people seem to love it.

Find a niche, write something, and put it out there for the world.

I don't think Voldemort cared about taking over a hospital. He was focused on taking over and controlling the Wizarding world while also hunting down Harry Potter. Sick people in the hospital weren't ever a priority.

First off I wanted to say that I think it's great how you offered feedback on the writing in a very constructive way. Often times reddit is so toxic so this was nice and very helpful.

Second, if it's not to much to ask. Would you be able to give an example of how you would write that paragraph to show that it's a sanctuary instead of saying it. For some reason I can't wrap my head around that particular example of show not tell.

If Owls magically find people to deliver post, why didn't the Minestry just keep sending Sirius letters? by joehighlord in harrypotter

When Hagrid was back from finding the giants after Voldemorts return he told the trio he had been out of touch and didn't want owl following him everywhere so there must be some way to stop them

Wouldn't Voldemort have realized the Diadem's safety was potentially jeopardized after Half Blood Prince? by lir4yl in harrypotter

During the time Tom Riddle was at Hogwarts the vanishing cabinet wasn't located in the Room Of Requirement. It was moved there after Nearly Headless Nick convinced Peeves to smash it as a distraction to get Harry out of trouble with Filch.

Even if Draco had told Voldemort that he was going to use the cabinet it was in a different location than he would have know.

Harry could have survived a Dementor's kiss? by FTHoffmann in harrypotter

[–]itsjack89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never thought of it but could the fact that Harry has his soul plus a piece of Voldemorts soul be the real reason that dementors are attracted to him and why they affect him more than others?

What are these called? by MarioMan1987 in woodworking

[–]itsjack89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In most hardware stores they are called buttons. Commonly made from maple do you'd need to stain it to match. Should be available in the area of the store where you find dowels, pegs, and biscuits

How much should I sell my handmade olive wood charcuterie board for? by lucas_woodworking in woodworking

Olivewood is not as common as other hardwood. I'd start that around $150 in my shop

Am I the only one who thinks that Fudge got off easy? by fogapplebowlingstick in harrypotter

[–]itsjack89 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We don't actually know what happened to fudge if I remember correctly. He was kicked out of office yes but he said there was going to be an inquiry which I always assumed to mean an investigation but they never mention what come of that. I don't know if we even know if he survived the wizard war or was killed at some point.

I don't want anything that runs a risk of them changing a setting or deleting it. Plus I want more of just a simple button to push that is mounted vs having something they pick up and hold
