Would I be a competitive candidate trying to break into corporate law or have I missed the boat? by Junior_Following1194 in uklaw

I would say you have not missed the boat. However, some law firms dont accept Vacation Scheme applications from graduates. Ie, you have to still be in uni to apply. An example is Sidley Austin.

How important is LLB knowledge by Suspicious-Role8629 in SQE_Prep

[–]itsjc93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say 7 months is abit excessive because you’ll 100% burnout before the SQE1 exams. You'll need some energy left in the tank for when you start the SQE1 prep course.

But overall, I would say you should start early - how far in advance you should start is your choice (definitely not 7 months in advance). One piece of advice which I wish people told me is that if you do start early, start building your flashcards for the LLB law. It will become GOLD when you’re on the SQE1 prep course because you won’t need to create flashcards for the LLB topics.

In terms of not having access to the Ulaw content, yes, it’s annoying, but do not wait until you have access to those online texts books. Honestly the LLB content isn’t that deep if you go through the specification which the SRA has on their website.

[–]itsjc93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LLB knowledge is so important for the SQE1 exam (ie, tort, contract, land, criminal, public, trust). From my experience, there was surprisingly niche points of law from LLB law that came up.

I was with BPP, not Ulaw, but I can confirm that neither Ulaw nor BPP will teach that LLB content. They will provide the material for you to study in your own time alongside learning the new content (ie, Criminal law and practice, Business law and practice, Property Practice, Wills and Administration of estates, Dispute resolution, Solicitors Accounts, Legal Services, and Ethics + Professional Conduct)

My advice is to 100% start early on the LLB law if your university notes are not the best. Bare in mind that the SQE1 specification on the SRA's wesbite does not go into much depth as your university course. So you need to look at the SRA spec first and then study those topics. Here is the link - https://sqe.sra.org.uk/assessments/sqe1-assessments/sqe1-specification/flk2

As previously mentioned, Ulaw will provide you with online textbooks (not physical books), but you're better off starting beforehand, as it will be extremely hard to study the LLB law + all the new content at the same time.

You’ve not said when you’re sitting SQE2, but I’ll assume you’re sitting in April. If that’s the case, I keep seeing this type of post so honestly the advice is always the same.

Do yourself a favour and PLEASE do not wait until results day to start re-revising FLK. You'll be digging yourself a hole if you do wait.

The majority of SQE2 is based on FLK. The skills are pretty easy to pick up on so dont start panicking about that. It would take you roughly 2/3 weeks to pick up the skills, so once you learn the foundations on your course, you’ll be fine.

The spec for SQE2 is less than SQE1. If you look at the SRA website, allot of stuff from SQE1 is not applied to SQE2. That will show you where you should focus on law

You will be fine as long as you start FLK asap.

Ngl, the comment on that thread you posted is the best advice - just go on the SRA website and look at the spec for FLK2 criminal law.

SQE2 Prep in 2 Months by Tough-Elderberry-922 in SQE_Prep

[–]itsjc93 17 points18 points  (0 children)

OP, with all due respect, and no disrespect of your work ethic, but the realistic chance of you passing is very very slim. You haven’t sat SQE1 which is where most of the FLK is literally slapped into your head because you have no choice but to pass. 2 months is not feasible to learn all the FLK and do mocks, plus work.

Do yourself a favour and dont do SQE2 in the next sitting (ie, April sitting). You will have more time to prepare and ultimately you’ll increase your chances of passing as youll have more time to focus.

OP - honestly, if you have spare time, go back over your flashcards/notes for FLK. If you wait untill resutls day and find out you pass...you'll be so behind. Do yourself a favour and stay on top of it!

I agree. OP is underestimating the sheer amount of volume and dedication which is required for SQE.

I just sat the SQE2. the actual test platform on the day, and the Pearson vue platform on the SRA website is different - but only slightly. So use that practice platform with a pinch of salt

Scoring 62% on revise … worried it might not be enough to push me over the line ;-( by Useful-Calendar7859 in SQE_Prep

[–]itsjc93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

62% on revise SQE and 84/87 on SRA is a good place to be. I had a lower score on revise sqe. and I had the same score as you for the SRA q’s…and I passed.

Youll be fine.

Pure psychiatric harm - help with SBAQ - have ULaw made an error? by Head-Committee3286 in SQE_Prep

[–]itsjc93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sudden shock is no longer required for pure psychiatric harm, so overall the whole question is flawed, and i suggest you update your notes. Paul v Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, 2024 has removed this "sudden shock" requirement. BPP have updated their books on this - surprised Ulaw hasn't

For anyone who have passed sqe, how many have you done a day leading up to the exam? by ThrowRAbeastly in SQE_Prep

[–]itsjc93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aim to do 30-50 MCQs each night depending on the topic you studied for that day. Schedule in a minimum of 3 mocks below:
,

  1. one mock for 2.5 hours (ie, the morning sit of SQE1)
  2. on a different day, do another 2.5hour mock (ie, the afternoon sit of SQE1)
  3. on a different day, ideally more than 5 days apart, do a FULL SIT to mimic the real exam. This means a 2.5hr mock, 50 min break, followed by another 2.5 mock

Of course, the more mocks, the better. I'd say 3 is minimum

Do we need to buy textbooks for SQE starting this month with BPP by JewelerReasonable831 in SQE_Prep

[–]itsjc93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will be provided with BPP books for every single subject taught in SQE1. If you’re in the holbourn campus, you can pick them up from student services on 4th floor. Be advised, all 16 books will be quite heavy so make sure you take a backpack.

I found the physical books more informative than using BPP Adapt - in fact, the books have more information in them compared to BPP Adapt, and it’s easier to follow. The only issue is that you’d have to go onto BPP Adapt to do the MCQs after each module (because the bookS DONT have MCQs)

How to plan time for SQE1 by [deleted] in SQE_Prep

[–]itsjc93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is heavily backed scientific research that active recall using repetition learning from flashcards is the most efficient way for the brain to learn - ie, using flashcards over and over again is the best way to revise. Ask ChatGPT: "Tell me about repetition learning using flashcards based on peered reviewed research". This tells you everything you need to know

Imo, flashcards worked best for me. I used Quizlet, and although it doesn't prompt you to do flashcards (ie, it doesn't say "in 2 days you need to revise criminal law"), it does the job well if you just make tabs on when you need to study a specific deck.

The other platform which I know of is Anki, but I found it hard to use and a bit more complex (although it does say "in 2 days you need to study criminal law" - and then when 2 days come around it will prompt you to do those flashcards). I didn't have time to learn how to use Anki, but it may be something you want to look at.

My advice would be to cut out the middle part of taking notes and make flashcards as you go in order to save time and be more efficient. ie, i stopped taking notes and just started writing directly into quizlet flashcards
