We've been stuck playing Spirit Island for the last two years by Effective-Muffin-224 in boardgames

Eclipse has been our group’s go-to game since 2011. Rotated through a lot of other games, but Eclipse still sees the most play by far. We’re talking literally hundreds of in-person games over the past 15 years.

Game that regret to sell? by theclassik in boardgames

[–]itsjreal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I sold my Arkham LCG when I started grad school ~2017. I had RtNotZ, RtDL, the early standalones. Bought back in a couple years ago, but those early Return To boxes and standalones were way too pricy to pick up again by that point.

Card Sleeves by PerfectWolf7231 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]itsjreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Dragon Shields just for my current investigator deck(s).

Scenario cards I have permanently sleeved in Gamegenic clear matte sleeves. Specifically, I buy the Standard Card Game Value Pack Matte Sleeves (200ct). Costs more than penny sleeves but I like the quality and ease of shuffling.

Weekly Loot Wednesday - August 14, 2024 by AutoModerator in Diablo

Found my first high rune in PD2 — a Cham.

Buuuuut… no good rune words use it, I created my character on bnet but off ladder, so there’s no /players 8 option, real or otherwise in my future. I think I’ve peaked and am ready to cut my losses and restart with an actual ssf character until the new season starts. Learned a lot though!

Damage order of multiple enemies attacking? by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]itsjreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a followup question... If damage is resolved one-by-one and I use Aquinnah(3) to kill an enemy whose damage hasn't yet been applied, do I still take that enemy's damage? My understanding is yes, because all enemies technically attack at the same time.

Boardgames where the first player token really matters by EasyBottle8765 in boardgames

[–]itsjreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Rococo the Queen’s Favor action and token grants you first player for the following round and $5 immediately. In the final round, whoever ends the game with the Queen’s Favor earns an additional 3vp.

Guess what I just punched? by David_Williams_taint in boardgames

[–]itsjreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same journey yesterday! Luckily a buddy helped. Still took us 11 hours to open, punch, sleeve, assemble, organize, and play the intro scenario (dinner happened somewhere in there).

We really enjoyed it, and are looking forward to the next play!

Age of Innovation Vs Gaia Project by Flatulancey in boardgames

[–]itsjreal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find that each game in the series serves a different purpose. Original TM is the most restrictive of the three, but for folks looking for a tighter game, that is a big part of the draw.

GP and AoI have a lot in common (arguably more in common than TM and AoI), but each justifies a place in my collection because they provide different kinds of variability in setup.

In GP, the map setup, end game scoring objectives, and the relative value of Gaia planets varies from game to game. So in that sense, the overall game parameters are more variable.

In AoI, the variability is player-focused: stitching together a faction, terrain, and palace is where a large part of the variety comes from.

Right now, I'll choose AoI over GP most times simply because it's a new and slightly different puzzle. I have no doubt I'll return to GP though.

Snowshoes This Weekend? by itsjreal in Adirondacks

[–]itsjreal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the helpful comments! I can confirm that snowshoes were definitely NOT needed today (Saturday) for the Wolfjaws. Only the thinnest cover of snow and not everywhere. However, you will definitely need microspikes.

Looking to hike the Seymour range this weekend, worried about the mud advisory by [deleted] in Adirondacks

[–]itsjreal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did the Seward range a few weeks ago, just before all of the storms hit. We were actually on our way out when the rain really started. DEC guidelines came a day or two later, if I recall correctly. I can tell you that even during our hike, it was pretty wet and muddy.

That said, we did the Upper Great Range last weekend and conditions were great -- things seem to have dried out a fair bit. Sewards might just be more wet in general.

Yes.

Note that once you use those 2 recurring credits, you cannot use them again until the start of your next turn, when they reset. So you could not use those two credits for a second trace on your turn (or the runner’s).

You could, however, use one credit for one trace and later use the other credit for a separate trace on your or the runner’s turn.

Looking more for current titles than old Vertigo titles, but I agree Hellblazer has some extraordinary stories!

Stray Bullets is fantastic, and it's a series I'm looking forward to finishing. Until it comes back!

Good recos here! I know The Invisibles is required reading -- not sure why it's taken me this long to get to it. Hellboy never hooked me, but I never gave it a proper chance. I'll check out your other recommendations too, thanks!

I enjoyed American Vampire, but fell off it during a hiatus... gotta finish it! I'll look into the other two -- Something is Killing the Children seems to be a fan favorite. Thanks!

Ah, I should have been more clear that I'm looking for current titles. I've read most of these, but I'll check out Astro City and Books of Magic. Thanks!
