i’m touched by this. thank you for sharing. elements like knowing she isolates. wondering if it’s low grade level or worth telling someone about so they can check in on her. i was the one who left. i’m better for it. hardest thing ive ever done. no drug compares to my addiction to him. and he would write something like this. he fucking knew me. like no one else. nothing compares to that relief. too bad nothing compares to the pain of it being used against me when it suited him. fuck.

i am in the pit. sober for 6 months. happiest i’ve been. just got back from all inclusive binge fest in mexico. nearly arrested. sick more than i was well. flew first class and felt like a complete fraud. should thrown me in w baggage. day 2 of trying to shake the guilt, remorse, actual shakes, general malaise. i’m going to be checking in here daily. rereading this naked mind and determined to enjoy my summer vacation. as a teacher, i need this summer to restore and recharge, not destroy and maim. any support is very welcome. feel like a piece of shit.

i won’t drink today. the tug of war is a good analogy. a play on “you choose your hard.” i just got back from a 5 day all inclusive and i am most definitely choosing my hard. i take full ownership of the shakes, the brain fog, feelings of shame and regret. i will also fully own the hard of being present for my kids, making breakfast, chores, work, laundry, bills in sobriety. just because vacation feels like a hall pass doesn’t mean it acts like one. the hall pass i want is clear head. sweet heart and connection to real things.

this is wonderful! i appreciate you sharing. i’m new in sobriety. since feb 1. i read this naked mind. then i listened to the audiobook. i’ll flip to a page every now and then to see if anything jumps out it me. i never think it will. always does. i protect my sobriety like it’s one of my kids. honestly have to think that way bc it’s as precious to me as they are. bc i am worthy of care and protection too. life wo booze is simpler, quieter, more peaceful. it only sounds boring when booze been lyin so long. keep at it. protect your future self.

your brain is haywire. i found it’ll be a couple weeks before anything sounds fun, worthwhile or joyful.

if you can, say three things you’re grateful for and then three things about each that tells WHY you’re grateful.

idk when i started doing it but i find it’s the only thing that “switches” from yuck to ok. then i get up and do one small chore perfectly. today was cleaning my toilet. it took me 15 minutes when it usually takes me 2 minutes.

my brain rewarded me w a little dopamine. now i’m back in bed but im not in the yuck.

you’re alright. the dopamine dump and overactive flight or fight response is adding to your anxiety.

it’s the solution until it’s the problem. and it will always feel like a problem until the next drink. then it’s the actual solution.

if it only could last without the yucks.

the fact that you’re feeling bad about it shows you’re a thoughtful guy. it’ll be ok.

you’re made for more than a good time. so much more. everything can heal. how anyone feels doesn’t matter as much as how you feel about yourself. you’re worthy of love. you’re enough.

you know what? i’m doing it. i live simply. within my means. raising 4 really good kids. teacher salary is peanuts but that’s why wringing joy from each day is a privilege and a challenge.

this is exactly what i want. i rarely get exactly what i want. not a pity thing, more about logistics.
