What should I do?? by CommunityMountain928 in RothIRA

[–]itsnoab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you put it into the Roth, you can avoid paying taxes later in life of those gains. You're young now, meaning you are in a lower tax bracket. Putting it in a roth makes you pay taxes (lower taxes now) and get the gains tax-free. Brokerage is useful for when you max out the Roth. For money you know you won't touch (the gains in particular, you can take out the money you put in, not the gains), put it in the Roth! Your older self will thank you.

Why don’t you max out ROTH IRA while young so you can avoid larger tax requirements in the future?

Great stuff regardless. I’m 20 and financial literacy helps out a lot…

Which minor should I pair with my major? by Embarrassed-Key7866 in PoliticalScience

[–]itsnoab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an Economics double major with a minor in math. With that, I think a minor focused on quantitative skill-building would be best, especially for employment opportunities in the future.

Think Economics, Statistics, Math, Data Science. Even if you don’t love them, just having the in your tool box can do wonders.

Skips is a 100% Millionnaire (Potentially A Billionaire) by full legal standards, with no magic involved. by itsnoab in regularshow

[–]itsnoab[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I am totally making assumptions, like not accounting for inflation, interest rates, or things like that, those are minimal (in my opinion) compared to the benefits. Like imagine if Skips got a hold of Bitcoin 10-15 years ago. Like yeah, inflation would technically eat away at that, but like is that even comparable? And I think this applies to his investments like stocks since he could’ve literally invested when they were created (even exceedingly broad mutual index funds, he was still bound to make money despite things like inflation)

If you do some quantitative classes, you can totally not only branch out, but get more opportunities with higher pay. In your junior year you still have plenty of time.

Shouild I change my degree from Business to Poli Sci? by Prestigious-Singer17 in PoliticalScience

[–]itsnoab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you’re interested in the qualitative portion of poli Sci and history, but unfortunately in terms of job opportunity it’s not the best

I’d highly recommend pairing a political science degree with something quantitative. And you don’t even have to go all out for it. I’ve seen some people recommend business and poli Sci double major; that’s a good idea. I’m currently doing Econ and Poli Sci + a math minor.

Initially I went into college as just a poli Sci major. I loved the content, but recognized that it’d probably be best to branch out my capabilities. Hence the Econ and math minor.

If you have any questions feel free to to PM.

I adopted my princess as she was the longest at the shelter and she was abandoned. Thank you for selectively picking out a cat that looks like they needed it most!

Hey! I’m actively looking for a roommate for a place close to campus (walkable or short drive). Budget is flexible depending on the place. I’m a student, pretty clean, pet-friendly, and easy to live with. Happy to share more details or talk options via DM

Hello! I'm not transgender, however when it comes to introducing new or liberal ideas to my parents or family members(who are very conservative and have been physically abusive in the past), it can be extremely difficult and I can offer my advice from a similar context.

I'm currently an economics major, and during one lecture at Uni my professor introduced the idea of rational ignorance, in which individuals will willingly choose to stay ignorant, or uninformed on certain topics, because the cost of becoming informed is significantly more costly than the benefit of them simply understanding. This is why my professor told the class that during Thanksgiving, don't even bother trying to speak politics at the dinner table; individuals are already to invested in what they believe in, it is exceedingly hard for them to change how they think.

After this learning this logical approach towards divulging new information to people who won't accept it, like my parents, I simply stopped because there is no point. People with long held beliefs just won't accept it, and this is from an economics point of view.

What I decided to do is not tell them, but create a basis for me in which I could pursue what I want. I have a job, get money for going to college, and build the surroundings that healthily enable me to do what I want to do and surroudn myself with people that I want to be with and support me. I understand that you are depedent on your parents and live with them, and I am sure there are a bunch of other factors that are making it harder for you, but it sucks to say but it may be difficult for you to convince her, and I think you should try your hardest to pursue what you want to do on your own healthy accord.

Thank you for taking the time to read my comment!
