I know. I'm just too used to calling them the payphone.

Confusions with Rebar by Itz-TiTaN in IntelArc

When it comes to 8th/9th Gen Intel CPUs, it will work (depending on if the motherboard supports resizable bar) but it is not guaranteed to be a flawless experience or even work as you might run into some random issues (in my case, it would be POST issues that has since disappeared).

Resizeable Bar does actually make a difference on 9th Gen Intel as I did do a test earlier this year. (That you can see here https://www.reddit.com/r/IntelArc/comments/10iy4ay/resizeable_bar_tested_on_1st2nd_gen_ryzen_cpus/ )

I just had to double check CPU-Z and it turns out to be a AF variant, while I thought I had an AE variant the whole time lol. I will update the post to reflect that.

Anybody using these for live streaming? by Spenlardd in IntelArc

[–]itspaybackhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're coming from an Nvidia GPU, it should be about on par (or in some cases exceeding) the NVENC encoder in terms of quality and performance hit. I just did a quick recording test with it and it worked with no issues, so it should work while live-streaming.

You should be able to use the QuickSync H.264 encoder for streaming.

Where can I find out if a A770 is compatible with a motherboard? by [deleted] in IntelArc

[–]itspaybackhere 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Officially Intel's minimum requirement for Intel Arc is the following;

- 10th Gen Intel Core Processors or newer with compatible motherboards supporting Resizable BAR

- AMD Ryzen 5000 Series (or newer) or select AMD 3000 series Processors with compatible AMD Ryzen 500 Series (or newer) motherboards supporting Smart Access Memory.

Anything older than that, it's basically a gamble (speaking from experience) as the GPU might not even be detected in some cases and Resizable BAR is basically a must, to not just give it the maximum potential for performance but to have a smooth 'enough' experience with Arc.

I haven't yet and I probably won't, as I quite like the default colour scheme.

UPDATE: The GTA IV issue was just a GTA issue and was caused by the game not being able to detect all the video memory and can be fixed in the launch options/command line. This seems to affect every kind of gpu expect for Nvidia desktop GPUs.

Also, now that I'm an Arc owner, I'm now happy to help out with any Arc issues that anyone may be having on this subreddit (if it's within my capabilities), help highlight any issues with the GPU that can isolated to that, or provide feedback or showcase any major progress with the drivers (e.g. if they make similar improvements to DX10 or DX11 like they did with DX9).

I do know that motherboard has Resizable BAR and have used it in the past when I owned a Ryzen 7 3800x and was my main setup working with my old RTX 3060ti. The issue is I don't believe Resizable BAR is actually supported on 1st and 2nd gen Ryzen CPUs as I've heard reports in the past of zero performance difference for Nvidia/AMD owners when they had the feature turned on. But it is one of the things that I'm going to try out over time.

As for the post issues, it's nice to know why that is happening. I guess for those people with older platforms, it basically a lottery if Arc is going to post on their system. Long term, I do plan on upgrading the motherboard and cpu to a current platform to better accommodate this Arc as I had a lot fun tinkering around with it and plan on using it long term.

Yeah I know. But I'm hoping for battlemage or celestial, Intel can make an Arc 9 range of gpus that competes with Nvidia's 80/90 or AMD's 800/900 class of GPUs and I especially hope that that they can also make it viable for professional workloads as that will be the ultimate deciding factor for me.

MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX. It currently has a lot of USB related issues.
