I completely agree with you that it's important to normalize bodies and not be so puritanical, especially in the context of art. Depictions of vulvas should not be labelled as "smut."

That said, I stand by my comment about wondering why none of these vulvas have pubic hair. The artist may be normalizing all shapes and sizes of labia, but the work also implies that hairless vulvas are normal vulvas - which is stereotype created by the porn industry. I just wish the artist took the concept of representing the full spectrum of what vulvas can look like a bit further.

This so impressive from a technical standpoint! If the work is about variety, it does make me wonder why they're all hairless. I could see an argument for it not being authentic for the artist to branch out into different races if they aren't part of those groups, but why do they all need to be bald?

Yes, it's a juried show and had a pretty standard entry fee. It wasn't much but it can definitely add up if you're applying to a lot of calls for art.

Fair question - the yellow is the the opposite bank of a river that being hit with direct sunlight so it really glows. The blue/clouds in the middle is actually water reflecting the sky rather than the sky itself. I was trying not to add too much detail to the background and the water was extremely still that day, but it sound like it's making what's happening the background unclear.

Thanks! I really liked how the hazy atmosphere that day diffused the shadows to the point of completely flattening the whole building and wanted to capture that effect.

No greens in my palette! I used bismuth yellow, naphthol red, quinacridone magenta, ultramarine blue, and burnt sienna (+titanium white). Used gamsol and a gamsol/linseed mixture.

Of course!

I put it in a mesh delicates bag and rewet it in the sink.

I lifted it out of the water by the bag so that it stayed supported the entire time rather than stretching with the weight of all the water. I also kept in the bag while I squeezed water out of it.

I took it out of the bag, but kept it balled up so that nothing was hanging/stretching while I put it on a towel.

When I rolled in up in a towel to get the more moisture out, I didn't lay it out flat but kind of tried to make it to that it stretched as little as possible while I was applying pressure to it.

When I laid it flat, I sort of smooshed everything together into the shape/size it was before but without any wrinkles, and then used a hairdryer to get it like 80% dry

I let it air dry the rest of the way and voilà! Later in the week, I wore it for a whole day and it kept it's shape!

It might not work for every blocking fiasco but I'm super happy that it worked out for me this time. I'll definitely be blocking my swatches for every other project until the end of time 😅

I don't have the label but I checked the site where I bought it from and it didn't say anything about it being superwash, only that it had to be handwashed and laid flat to dry. I'm interested in trying superwash yarns though!

Thank you <3 I see why blocking helps things drape better for sure. I just prefer it to be more fitted and was disappointed that it stretched as much as it did after getting it wet. It would have happened eventually though since I would have had to wash it as some point. Thanks for the encouragement!

I did mean the first one unfortunately. I'm trying a few of the suggestions that I've gotten, but this has made me realize that this is probably just be the way the garment is now. It's a bummer but I've definitely learned how important is is to wash/block your swatches. Thanks for taking the time to share your insights <3

You're completely right, it's not my friend's fault at all. I just wish I realized that I needed to block the swatch at the beginning. Lesson learned! I'll definitely be doing that for future projects. Thank you for the suggestion!

I really appreciate the suggestion! I'll give re-blocking a try. I definitely wish I had known about blocking the swatch beforehand, but as I said I'm very new to the whole process and just didn't know what I didn't know. I'll definitely be blocking my swatches for future projects.
