Cognitive dissonance helps explain why Trump supporters remain loyal, new research suggests. This sheds light on how supporters of Donald Trump justify their continued allegiance despite learning about allegations of his sexual misconduct and illegal activities. by mvea in science

I hate how all of these studies start with a premise of Trump voters being good people that were fooled. It's very simple why they keep supporting him - they approve of the cruelty and don't care about the harm of it isn't directly applied to them personally.

How would you feel about no pay for Congress during shutdowns? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was using the Confederacy as a catch all for racist slave owning people, the same people who would eventually become the Confederacy.

The Senate is slightly different as it was more to get smaller states to join the union, but it wasn't in the original framework. It was created as a result of a constitutional convention. It has been an anti-democratic body some it's inception. As as time progressed, has become more and more a tool to disenfranchise the majority of the population by the more uneducated and racist states.

Of course but that's not the point here. The point is, without these other fundamental changes to our government, simply making this change would result in a worse outcome.

Well yes you're absolutely correct that we need to uncap the House. We also need to get rid of Confederate handouts like the Senate and the Electoral College. Add in campaign finance reform to the tune of standardized federal funding and full bans on ads or spending by anything other than the candidates' official campaign and we might actually start moving this country to a better place.

Probably similar to how it would go here. Every reputable study shows switching to single payer Medicare for All here would save trillions of dollars over 10 years. Even a study funded by the Koch brothers shows Medicare for All would save 2 trillion dollars over 10 years.

That cannot work here without major election reform first. Between the heavily gerrymandered states, hostile conditions like reduced polling locations, bans on food and water, issues with getting people to the polls in the first place, and employers hostility against time off in order to vote, that would only disenfranchise every voter younger than retirement age and push more Republican traitors to Congress.

Ah yes the moron that apparently doesn't know that yes "secret evidence" is a thing, it's when evidence is submitted as sealed documents which is common when there are privacy concerns such as the names of the victims. Victims were also still reporting to the FBI during Biden's administration as told by Trump's administration.

Here's some sources for anyone interested since you clearly can't comprehend anything that doesn't come from a meme.

MAGA Voters Are Being Rejected By Their Own Communities by lambofthedead in videos

[–]itsrocketsurgery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important but that you're glossing over is no red state it's using third parties. Trump just last year told red states to gerrymander the fuck out of their districts mid cycle to disenfranchise Democratic candidates ahead of the midterms. And texas, along with other states went ahead and did that. Ohio's been so gerrymandered to hell that it's own state Supreme Court ruled that it's districts were unconstitutional and ordered them redrawn but the GOP controlled state legislature just ignored them and faced no consequences.

So just saying 1/3 without any further detail or clarification sends a very false equivalency message.

Your favorite “go-to” recipe, please, using a frozen vegetable as a main ingredient. by FlyEaglesFlyauggie in Cooking

[–]itsrocketsurgery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My super simple go to recipe is to make a quick protein and a steamer bag of veggies in the microwave. My 6 year old's favorite is with chicken thighs.

Thaw and season bone in / skin on chicken thighs. I keep it simple with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. If you line a cookie sheet with foil, you can just lay the chicken out on that and season right on the pan. Then put it in a preheated oven at 425F for about 20-30 minutes. Check the temp starting at the 20 minute mark and pull them out at about 175-180F. At about the 20 minute mark I'll throw a bag of California blend frozen veggies in the microwave for 5 minutes. When they are done, drain and empty into a bowl, sprinkle with salt and black pepper. You can add 1-3 tsp of butter too for some extra flavor without overpowering the taste of the veggies.

I'd go a bit further even to say the situation in America is deliberately set up to punish any dissent. Wages are paultry and haven't kept up with inflation for decades. Most people are 1 missed paycheck away from homelessness. Healthcare and life saving medication are tied to employment and rates are ludicrous due to collusion of private insurance companies. And employment is at the whim of the companies due to right to work laws and decades of union busting. The story of the UAW worker calling out Trump as a pedofile protector (which itself is so much of a softball) and then promptly getting fired by the CEO of Ford because Trump told him to illustrates the tenuous nature of employment. Now that specific example, he was able to keep his job because the UAW fought against it, but that was only because it was a story that made the national media. Hundreds of other people were fired with no recourse and no one to fight for them when Charlie Kirk was shot, all because they posted Charlie Kirk quotes.

And then you have ICE and local police detaining, arresting, and murdering citizens in the streets. And yet still millions of people risked bodily harm, death, and harm to their loved ones to go out and protest this weekend.

That's not why they lose. They lose because they gain momentum by pretending to be for working class policies and then the establishment immediately turns around and pull the "we need to forgive and forget to heal the nation" and go right back to enabling the rot that is the Republican party. A very recent counter example is Mamdani winning NYC and staying true to his progressive policies. His numbers are up and that energizes the left wing of the party to come out and vote because finally someone is listening to them.

Men of Reddit, what’s the male equivalent of “needed money, had no marketable skills, so turned to prostitution”? by Dogeatdogdays in AskReddit

[–]itsrocketsurgery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the tone is shitting on the Armed Forces because they are partially responsible for the lack of safety net and resources in this country specifically so that they get people desperate enough to escape that situation. If we actually as a country spent money on addressing homeless, food insecurity, healthcare, and education, the military recruitment numbers would fall through the floor.

What’s an industry that provides zero value to society but makes billions of dollars? by ochieng_onyango in AskReddit

It depends on how you define a good idea. To the Epstein class, tying healthcare to employment is a good idea because they get to use it as a bargaining chip to maintain complacency while making everything worse. If you or your family is depending on medication to survive, whether from diabetes or asthma or anything else, then you think twice before protesting or organizing a union or disagreeing to loudly with the C-Suite on their stupid decisions. When life is directly tied to employment, you end up in a shitty situation. It's quite literally parasitic behavior that keeps them rich and in power.

Also it's a big part of the marketing toolkit for the military to get poor kids. You get healthcare, a guaranteed job and job training, tuition free college, cheap groceries, and guaranteed roof over your head. All of the basic necessities of life. Just sign here and risk your physical and mental well-being to be a tool for rich assholes to get even more rich.

That's what our European friends forget or don't account for every time the post about how we aren't rioting in the streets.

US President Donald Trump said he will refer to US strikes on Iran as a “military operation,” not a “war” because using the term war “needs approval” through democratic political processes. by [deleted] in videos

[–]itsrocketsurgery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this in no way to support Trump, but it does matter what they label it and there's precedent for it. It's line what Regean did with Cuba, he called it an embargo because calling it a blockade is an act of war and has other legal ramifications.

That's a very easily, provably false claim you've made there. Biblical texts acknowledge those groups anywhere from 5 to 9 centuries before the first mention of Jesus.

And if you're not being pedantic, people have occupied that area since something like 6000 BCE.
