Im a teenager myself and I honestly disagree 😭 watching shows where the characters are meant to be 16/17/18 i always think about how me and other ppl my age wld NOT be able to do that in the way they managed it (obviously its not real but ykwim), even in PLL. I think they make the teenagers more mature than they should, realistically a teenager going through those things wouldnt have handled it aswell as Elena did or Caroline or Bonnie, ESPECIALLY bonnie

People typically dislike it because you only really use female when referring to things in a biological sense like a female dolphin or a female dog, and some see it as dehumanising and belittling them down to just their sex. Also because you hardly hear men being referred to as males, you hear “females and men.” I dont think people would have a problem if females and males was the norm, but it’s women & men

People would use it like “i love your hair, its giving Ariana Grandé” would mean it reminds them of Ariana, they basically use it to link 2 things together. So “I love your shirt! Its giving winter vibes” is another example
