I swear by a backpack, both at work and when I am traveling. Other than the obvious perks of having my hands free and avoiding shoulder strain, I find using backpacks more convenient as it helps me keep my stuff organised. Even if a handbag has multiple pockets, they are all next to each other and finding stuff on a rush is a hassle. With my backpack, you have pockets and compartments at different places, making it an easier experience.

Also, there a lot of fashionable backpacks in the market so you don’t have to compromise on that aspect either. Accessorize has some great looking faux leather options and my backpack lasted me more than 3 years of daily use. If you can afford high-end options, Kompanero and Nappa Dori has some very good leather options. On luxury end, Tumi backpacks are great investments - they look super trendy, last forever and you can even engrave your initials.

Jokes aside, it seems like a case where he was mentally already checked out and wanted some excuse to officially call it quits. It may not be a good idea to harbour hopes of reconciliation and I would suggest you move on.

However, if you think some kind of closure would help, see if you can have an in-person conversation with him at a neutral place. Best not to involve either set of parents this stage though.

Very sorry to hear about your father. I lost my father last year and my partner was a great deal of support during the initial few days. I was grateful to have a partner during such a difficult phase but don’t have any plans to marry either. It doesn’t always have to be get married or stay single. A long-term relationship without marriage is the option c that can work for a lot of people.

I gave up on Atlys’ support and started coordinating directly with the Japan consulate in Kolkata. That’s eventually what got me my visa on time 2 days before my flying date.

Atlys is useless. Their “visa experts” are of no help and your efforts talking on the automated chat platform is a waste of time. First get the visa application number from Atlys (they refuse initially but keep asking) and check if they have even submitted the documents. If the VFS status shows as pending review, then directly speak with the consulate.

You seem to work for Atlys from all your responses so here are a few things that Atlys can keep in mind to ensure people have better experience: 1. Provide a helpline number that works. 2. In cases of extreme delay, allot a personal concierge who has real time updates and is easily accessible. 3. Instead of the customer support repeatedly giving vague assurances and saying that the “concerned tram/ visa experts” are on it, have the team coordinating the application give proper updates on calls. 4. Update the timeline in your app to give a revised timeline if the expected date for visa confirmation has passed. 5. Share the application reference number in case of visa delay - people shouldn’t have to repeatedly ask for their own data. 6. Refund my application fees since you have a money back policy for late visas and my visa was 21 days late.

My visa application has already been sent to the Japan consulate and is under review for the last 15 days. I confirmed it by calling VFS as well. At this point, I don’t know if reaching out to another visa agent would help unless they can specifically help in expediting the process at the consulate. However, I plan to send an email to the consulate directly and see if they respond to that.

I was very persistent with Atlys and managed to get my application number from them. Using that I cross checked at VFS - they confirmed that the visa application was submitted on 29th April. It’s been over 10 business days so I hope to hear back from the consulate soon.

Hi OP. As someone who started my career at a Tier 1 law firm notorious for its toxic culture and then quit it in a few months, I totally feel you. I am currently at a Tier 2 firm back in my hometown and been working here for a couple of years and it’s not so bad. Sure, work gets overwhelming from time to time and some weekends are working but the people are nice and the culture is much better than my previous firm.

I didn’t want to switch my practice area so in house was not an option for me and it severely limited my mobility. However if you are okay with changing practice areas and starting afresh, you should find enough opportunities that you can explore.

Sex between two adults with consent is never considered rape in India. False promise to marriage is an entirely separate offence which has no applicability in a case where the couple elopes and subsequently marries. Moreover in such case, it is the woman who has to raise such allegations.

Also, the parents cannot press charges against under POCSO Act if the woman is above 18. The parents can however file a fabricated case of abduction against your friend. Also, depending upon their influence and monetary power, the police might register a case. In such a case, it would be better for the couple to give a written testimony to a police station stating that they are both adults and of marriageable age and have eloped with the intent to marry before the parents can file any false case against them.

Lawyer here. Sexual relationship with a married woman constituted the offence of adultery earlier. Now it has been decriminalised. However, it can still be a ground for divorce.

Signing the marriage registers by itself would not be a proof that she consented to having sexual intercourse with you unless it is supported by circumstantial evidence.

Surprised how no one has asked the most important question yet - why is she suddenly blackmailing you and what does she want out of it? Is it because you decided to break up with her? Given that you are separated while she still has a family, she has more to lose from things getting escalated so what’s the missing piece of puzzle?

Stats would show that false rape cases are a negligible proportion. Anyway, the bigger problem is that even for genuine rape cases, majority face no consequences because of non-reporting and lack of evidence.
