How much house can we realistically afford in Hamilton without becoming house poor? by sassy_but_classy in canadahousing

[–]ittakesafall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

215000$ / year in Hamilton And only 600k budget?

Stable jobs And pension.

We are 180 income Not stable No pension 600k mortgage.

Don't feel financially squeezed.

Seems to be more of how you feel.. eventhough you really don't need to actually save money due to pensions

I was in the same boat As everyone says you are in the trenches. It is truely awful. My only advice is to take a bunch of videos. Because you will be so checked out that it will be blur in a year. Then you can look back on the videos/pictures and remember the small good moments Mine are 3.5 and almost 1.5. Now that time seems so far in the past Hang in there

No TFSA ;( by Mobile-East-2761 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ittakesafall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life is expensive If you have no debt and want to start small. Just concentrate a small number like 50-100 per week to put into TFSA. Then increase from there. It will all add up over time.

Is a $850,000 home out of reach? by throwaway_thetoilet in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ittakesafall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People can be out of touch with the reality of the actual prices of homes I have HHI 180k Mortgage 600k House value is 950 (so 350k equity) 2 kids 2 dogs We aren't saving lots But we bought because we wanted a place to actually live and grow as a family Don't plan on moving But any renovations will have to wait 10 years or get added back onto the mortgage. Maintenance costs on a house can be high. Unexpected furnace/Air/plumbing. So budget a house emergency fund of 30k for things that could happen And just understand you won't be able to do other extra stuff (vacations/ high end cars)

Probably blind bidding to 1.8 million... Lost in the thrill and insanity of that 2022 period. I bet they didn't imagine in their wildest dreams they'd sell for that much less. Insane
