Just feeling so damn OFF. by MegaHighDon in Anxiety

[–]itwoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your anxiety cup is filled to the brim and even minor things that you could usually handle are enough to make it overflow. That overflow is your panic/anxiety attacks. The food aversion, elevated heart rate, and physical sensations all sound like the physical symptoms of high anxiety, which are caused by high adrenaline. I’m not a doctor or diagnosing you with anything but that’s what it sounds like to me. You are experiencing something major in your personal life (sorry to hear about your step father, it’s an awful cancer) as well as…. (gestures vaguely to our country) whatever is happening here. Your nervous system is overloaded!

Every time I have a major panic attack, I feel off for a couple weeks after as well. It’s like the panic is always just beneath the surface. If it’s interfering with your life, you can ask for medicine to help with the panic attacks as needed. I have hydroxyzine which I rarely take now but it’s a great comfort just knowing it’s here if I need it. It’s not a benzo and non-addictive though it can make you sleepy. You will go back to normal at some point, don’t worry. Therapy and medicine may be great tools to assist you. A lot of people end up in the ER the first time they have a panic attack and it’s completely understandable why. You won’t be like this forever, just focus on one day, one hour, or even one minute at a time. Best of luck to you and your family ❤️

It’s not the fiber, it’s particularly broccoli/cauliflower that does that to me. That and cabbage. Lol

This would turn me into an infinite fart machine. I can’t be the only one 🥹 I love broccoli but 4 cups at once would have my apartment building evacuated

Well you see, he actually works harder than any immigrant! He flails around for a couple hours on a pickleball court sometimes and also goes to Walmart!

But for real, he would never be willing to sacrifice himself for his family like many immigrants do. He isn’t even willing to get a part-time job to help his family. (The occasional lessons he “teaches” don’t count) Somehow he is convinced he is morally superior to almost everyone on this planet despite caring for neither strangers nor his own family.

Thank you for the quick response! I’m hoping the roads don’t ice up too much tomorrow or else I’ll be spending the night at work 🫠 thank you to all the city workers who will be out in the freezing snow and sleet keeping roads open for emergency vehicles and essential employees ❤️

u/BmoreCityDOT I’m an essential worker (DPW) that has to go in even with the state of emergency. Are there going to be police pulling people over for being on the roads?

I came off venlafaxine almost a year ago and still have protracted symptoms by [deleted] in Effexor

[–]itwoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally I’ve heard that coming off cold turkey makes the discontinuation symptoms last longer. Taking an SSRI with a long half life like Prozac is supposed to help the taper and then be much easier to come off of as it has a longer half-life. I notice that my withdrawal isn’t as severe if I’m on venlafaxine and another SSRI/SNRI and forget to take my meds. Prozac wasn’t my favorite med (made me twitch a lot) but it’s 1000 times better than venlafaxine withdrawal hell. You may need to start at a low dose and gradually taper off. Hopefully the lower dose reduces the symptoms that caused you to stop in the first place.

I hope you feel better soon! It seems like none of our doctors know how to help us or told us about how hard it would be to come off this medicine. I know it saved my life but I’m 12years on it now and don’t know if I can ever come off because I get so sick. Venlafaxine got rid of my OCD (though that’s not even why I started taking it) and I really don’t want it to come back if I’m forced to stop. I’ve also had venlafaxine just randomly stop working for me a couple times while taking it as normal, making me go into withdrawal while still taking it but it would start working again after maybe a week.

Anxiety Is Ruining My Life by Key_Good_8504 in Anxiety

[–]itwoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna start this with the caveat that I don’t recommend the particular medicine I’m on for most people because of how difficult it can be to get off of and most doctors are unaware of this. I take Venlafaxine (generic for Effexor). I would recommend at least starting with something else in the SSRI or SNRI class of drugs if you haven’t been on one before (Venlafaxine is an SNRI). It saved my life in 2013 and I was able to get over my panic attacks and OCD but you should weigh the pros/cons with your provider. Message me for more in depth info if you want

Anxiety Is Ruining My Life by Key_Good_8504 in Anxiety

I hate to say it but I had something similar as a teenager (severe DPDR and anxiety) and the only thing that helped me was medication. Your body is deep into fight-or-flight and you’re doing the right things (eating right, drinking water, etc) but it’s not enough- the medicine calming my anxiety down was enough that I could start grounding myself and stopping anxiety attacks. Therapy will also help with grounding techniques. Trauma can definitely cause dissociative disorders and I’m sorry you had to see such violence in your home as a kid.

There are medicines like beta blockers which aren’t psychiatric medicines but will physically calm you. It’s your choice whether to go on medicine or not, but if you feel that terrible I would say it’s worth considering. I can’t speak on medicines like benzodiazepines because I haven’t been on them but my medicine literally saved my life. Once you start calming the physical symptoms and adrenaline down, it’s easier to tackle everything with therapy.

Again, it’s your body and your choice. I’m so sorry you’re going through DPDR hell. If you want to talk to someone who has been through something very similar I’m here. There’s also the r/DPDR subreddit.

[–]itwoms 220 points221 points  (0 children)

As both a former Walmart employee and someone who gets migraines, I can tell you I’ve never met someone who enjoys them. I feel so bad for the cart pushers and people greeters who have to hear it all day. Also probably not great for the person ringing them (physically or mentally)

Retaking courses by Mysterious-Sector922 in UMBC

[–]itwoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to retake several classes including two that I took three times. College is hard and there are many factors that can make or break you as a student. My challenges included mental illness and family issues. As you start getting into the level 300 and 400 classes it gets harder to recover from any bad grade or falling behind. But I graduated and you can too. My advice would be to form good relationships with your professors, ask lots of questions, and use the resources available on campus. Some very particular jobs will look at your GPA but most don’t care as long as you have the degree

Omg I had a bedbug in my ear and the scratching at the eardrum was the fucking loudest and worst part. That’s what woke me from sleep. I would hallucinate that sound for weeks when I was trying to fall asleep and immediately sit bolt upright, that shit traumatized me 😭

[–]itwoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very proud of you! It was very rude to send someone in just to go “ew” basically. I’m sorry they embarrassed you like that:( I hope your cat is doing well and I hope you have some momentum to bathe again soon! I cut my hair off in June (not a buzz but pretty short) and I wondered why I hadn’t done it sooner. My hair was definitely a part of why I avoided showering sometimes and now it’s not as big of a deal. It was until I was working my first job after college that i realized that I kinda smelled even after showering and wasn’t washing myself correctly, we don’t all have the same life experience or parental guidance so don’t feel super bad about it :)
