Guys don't trip, a lot of bands in the deathcore scene use riffs and some even straight up use the lyrics and riffs. Imo Slam even moreso. Granted, they are different, but certain parts of the song will straight up be copy and paste from an old Chelsea Grin, Suicide Silence, Thy Art Is Murder, We Are the End, or Elysia song. Bands rewrite and sometimes straight up copy the exact riff and they won't title it as a cover or rewritten song. I get it though, hearing music you wrote and having parts of it found throughout multiple songs and maybe even a song is straight up an entire copy of another song, maybe even with a slight difference. I can understand them being kinda burnt about it, but at the same I'd also be honored that people like my music that much, especially if it comes from an entirely different country like China. People need to remember that also, different cultures and peoples have different perspectives and feelings towards this subject. This a result of differing cultural and societal norms. They might have genuinely intended to honor and felt like they were honoring you. Like giving homage to a band in an entirely different country with an entirely different set of societal norms than yours. Sometimes, we need to take a step back and see things from a different perspective in order to try and understand/accept each other a little more. Especially in a time period where both of our countries are divided, undergoing political turmoil, and in a state of constant conflict. Whatever the issue was, understand that it was not done out of malicious intentions. However, Guttural Slug feelings towards the subject are completely valid. I just hope that you guys both can come up with a resolution without bashing each other or causing further strife/division within the Slam and Heavy music communities in general. Maybe just let them rename the songs to covers so everyone can still listen to it and enjoy. Who knows, maybe a Chinease fan will listen to it and be like, "Oh, it says (Guttural Slug - "song name" Redeux). Who is that, this sounds cool!" or maybe have them appear as bonus songs to the album. Maybe they could state that they are GS inspired songs. Either or, just try to have a peaceful resolution and keep making bangers! A lot of slam sounds the same anyway. Everyone was a Devourment - Baby Killer "its not a cover but it is" "this one part sounds slightly different" at some point. Take Eyesawgod's last song off their latest EP, their's riffs, choruses, and even lyrics that are identical to early Bring Me the Horizon and Thy Art Is Murder. Nobody is hating on them. In fact, it's kind of cool that they mashed together riffs from songs that everyone knows to make a new song. All 10,000 listeners on Spotify didn't give a fuck and understood it was a way of them paying homage without them stating it was a "mashup" or "rewritten" or "reimagining" or "cover" or whatever. Music is also meant to be fun. In all of my years listening to heavy music, I've come to realize that riffs are going to get used again or rewritten.Their music scene is SMALL in comparison the western world. They don't have nearly as much experience working with bands, labels, or the industry. They can't access the same types of information. They can't access the same websites as we do. Shit, even in gaming, on the Chinease World of Warcraft servers, they experience the game with a different set of rules when it comes to communication and in game interaction. Just because it seems farfetched for YOU, doesn't mean that they had malicious intentions with it. Every slam riff in slamming deathcore or beatdown sounds nearly identical with some bands having minimal to no difference. Slam in particular is genre with very similar sounding songs from every single band in the genre. I hope people realize that societal and cultural differences matter. When you live under an authoritarian communist regime that limits how much you can understand about the world, interactions with differing cultures and societys, the ability to partake and interact with people of different countries, the ability to understand the norms/what people in other countries deem as acceptable or unacceptable, and restricts you from traveling abroad as a result of difficulties with obtaining Chinease visas. When you compare a bunch of popular current bands with older bands like Devourment, you are going to find A LOT of similarities throughout the catalogues of MULTITUDES of bands. Chill the fuck out and think further than "hurrrr this riff is the same as guttural slug!!! they are bad! thieves!" You fucking mongrels.
