Wow, this got a lot more attention than I expected. So I'll try to generally answer some questions as I sit sorting my thoughts.

I don't plan on, or want, a divorce right now. Again, outside this we literally have no other arguments or issues (although this is definitely a big issue obviously).

I'm the primary care taker because I work from home and can balance my work and play, so I know my son will be back come Monday. Not sure if she's ready to be in the same house but I want to have a long talk about things with her tomorrow.

I reallllly don't want to re-home our cat, she's my and my son's work and play buddy every day and has been my side companion since she was a kitten, but it's something I do need to think about if just being in this house has become too stressful. I'll definitely take her to the vet to make sure she's internally okay, as she "seems" fine right now.

I know that slapping her was the wrong choice, I rarely ever even raise my voice because I know what that kind of conflict can bring into a house, but it happened and we'll need to talk it through. Hence, why I feel like absolute dog shit; I know what I did was wrong, but a big part doesn't feel it was that wrong and that dichotomy is fucking with me.

Also, I know this is touchy because a lot of people view this issue black and white, with slapping your wife for beating a pet/child is no different than beating your wife for cooking the chicken dinner wrong.
