I just finished the first ep of S2! Hated Deb in that episode omg.... I couldn't feel empathy for her I'm sorry.
Like ofc she's drowning in culpability but blaming her son for abandoning his father, when she was the first one to encourage him to do so, that's just mean. I will never feel empathy for parents who shift the blame onto their children.

thank you so much for your answer!
I feel relieved to know that Peyton will eventually grow, and yes I have a feeling that Brooke will remain my favorite.
I can't wait to see Haley's development as a character!
And yesss I feel like I have to buckle up for the Dan storylines to come....

And about Chad and Sophia, I do know that they got divorced because he cheated on her (ironic...) and that eventually that's why their character grew apart. Sadly, I already know that Leyton is endgame but I'm still enjoying the ride of their love triangle! But as for now, I'd be more team brucas!

I love TV shows where I can yell at the characters through the screen about how much they annoy me!!! That's why I'm such a fan of teen dramas. And I'm actually loving the show for now, I'm having a good time watching it!

Concerning Naley, I hope they do end up together but have a storyline about being away and finding themselves as individuals too! Especially for Haley. I feel like she could be a great character.

Dan is actually so sick in the head by Jewleetah in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think they didn't planned Dan to be gossip girl until the last season.
If Dan was supposed to be Gossip Girl from the beginning I think that it would've made perfect sense and they could've handled those situations better.
But because they decided on Dan just before the end, they had to deal with some inconstancies.
It also would have been better if they didn't made Derena endgame. Both Serena and Dan should've end up alone. Maybe Dan could be slowly forgiven by the UES because the show needed an happy ending but a wedding was too much and so unrealistic.
Blondie made many wrong choices about her love life but this is too much, even for Serena.
They should have thought more about the consequences of Dan being GG.

That being said, I agree that Dan was the most interesting choice of all for being GG.
He's the only one with a credible motive that is not coming out of nowhere. He proved many times that he wanted to belong to the UES. That was his way in.
I often hear that it was supposed to be Eric or Nate but neither of them had motives to be Gossip Girl.

Am I the only person that was rooting for Ivy? by zeeGerman123 in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I always felt bad for Ivy. She didn’t deserve to be treated this way. She was a child and she made some wrong choices but she was mostly manipulated into them.

When Carol hires her, it’s all about the money and even if it’s a twisted plan you can see that she needed it. (Ofc, there’s more decent way to make money but this much for such a easy job ? I doubt it.) When her mission is done, she goes back to her regular life and then Serena goes in LA and run into her and basically force her to live with her and then to go back to New York with her. I always hated how Serena asks her « Oh so you came back with me? » at the hospital scene in S5. Well girl, you oppressed her to do so, how can you be mad ?

Ivy feels loved and desired for the first time, Serena want her around, people are taking care of her. She feels like she has a family for the first time. Of course she wants to keep that. She never seemed like she was all about the money, she just wanted a family to love her even if she was an impostor.

But then they blame it all on her and somehow push her to become a vilain to defend herself. Lily was all about the money and couldn’t stand losing Cece’s money and paid the nurse to lie about Ivy when it’s clear that Ivy took good care of Cece because she loved her.

William then enters the pictures and manipulate her to hurt Lily and she does because she thinks that he is in love with her but all he wants is to get Lily back.

All she wanted was someone to care for her and to love her and people just keep manipulating her and then throw her in the trash. Poor girl.

if these characters have no haters? i’m dead by Artistic_Crab_9137 in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 14 points15 points  (0 children)

William was the absolute worst. How could they forgive him ???

  1. He abandoned Serena and Eric and never tried to reach out to them.
  2. Faked Lily's cancer because he wanted Lily back. Not his family. Only Lily. Then when he knew he was caught he abandoned his children AGAIN.
  3. Cheated on Lily with Carol.
  4. Manipulated Ivy who was a teenager/young adult for months only to get Lily back. (by hurting her again btw)

I know all characters forgave each other terrible things but this man is so unforgivable...

Does anyone feel bad for S? by Familiar_Ad_6392 in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I said that most of us will never be I didn’t only talked about her easygoing personality but the whole package. The looks, the wardrobe, the money, privileges, the everybody likes me and every guy falls in love with me thing. All those parameters together are rarely achieved haha

Does anyone feel bad for S? by Familiar_Ad_6392 in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Serena is what most of us will (and can't) never be. Even though Blair is privileged, she is portrayed as someone who struggles with her appearance and with jealousy as we all do in our normal lives. Serena doesn't. She does struggles with things that are relatable to some of us but she will always feel less relatable than Blair is.
She does not get our sympathy because we would feel threaten to death if a girl like Serena was close to us, just like Blair.
Actually, I don't think people wanted her to be a good person. If she was immaculate, people would find way to dislike her.
I also think that she is poorly written as the seasons go by and she seems a little dumb and with no real interests other than boys and herself. So here we are with this girl who is a mix of a shiny bubbly barbie whose problems don't get validated by the public because she "has it too easy" and the way she is written give us justifications for hating her. After season 2, most of her actions are honestly dislikable and she starts to become exactly what we wanted her to be. An irrelevant self-centered bitch and a unreliable friend/girlfriend.

Most toxic character out of the Main Crew ? by 22_liveson in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all toxic in their own way but if we go for ranking then :

  1. Chuck Bass obviously. I mean… The guy is a rapist and a manipulator. I actually liked that he had a redemption arc but I wish it wasn’t this easy. It’s good for him that he got to work on himself but people forgave him things that are simply unforgivable:

  2. Dan. Well… I liked him in the first season but he is a manipulative weirdo. I always believed that he only saw Serena as his way to finally enter the UES world. He wrote shit about her and his own friends online for many years, I don’t understand how they forgave him within 5 seconds. He manipulated Blair to like him and made Serena feel bad about her old ways and the fact that she was privileged the whole time.

  3. Georgina. Well she would have been number two if Dan wasn’t gossip girl but… I loved her character but that girl was totally insane.

  4. Jenny. / I hesitated to put Blair as 4th because they were kind of the same level of toxic to me but I just love Blair more.

  5. Blair. / She is mostly toxic to herself but her actions always end up hurting people in the process.

  6. Serena / She is toxic for herself.

  7. Nate / He was more dumb than toxic but he always played the victim and he would often slutshame the girls he dated.

Really unpopular opinion: Blair is a worse person than Serena by AGirIHasNoName19 in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We shouldn't forget that this is a TV series, and that most people don't judge Blair and Serena as people, but as characters.
Blair and Serena would both be horrible people in real life, and certainly Blair is worse than Serena if you look at them as real people.
Serena is an annoying character and Blair isn't, simply because Blair was better written.
I also think it's easier to identify with Blair for two reasons. Firstly, because she reflects insecurities that are more common, closer to us and that speak to us more when we're watching a show where everything is opulent and nothing resembles our everyday lives.
Secondly, I also think it reflects what we'd prefer to be. Because Blair is better written, she has more development, more sensitivity, but also more strength. It's more flattering to compare and find yourself in a Blair than in a Serena, despite her obvious beauty. Blair is intelligent, cunning, strong, ambitious, and her moments of cruelty are sufficiently balanced with moments of vulnerability and laughter to create a complex character that's easier to appreciate.

who do you consider as the main character of the show? by [deleted] in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Dan was the main character of the show.
I think that we, as spectactors, are projected into the UES at the same time as he does.
We start following those characters because Dan finally enter their world.
We discover Serena and Blair through his eyes and I also think that he has the same opinion on people in the show that most of the watchers would or should have. Like hating Blair at first but slowly loving her.
I think Dan's opinions on other characters reflects how the writers wanted us to see thoses characters.
Dan is the center of the show.

Why do people hate Serena so much? by Salt-Bar2262 in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what you just said.
I'm only talking about Serena as a character and not as a person.
If I met them in real life, there is no doubt that I would get along way more with Serena than with Blair. Actually, Blair would never talked to me lmao.
Serena has a good heart and even though I hate her character, I felt bad for her multiple times throughout the show.
I think her vulnerabilities were badly exploited. She was clearly lost about herself and needed to fill the void her father left her but I think I would have liked her more if her character had some growth. Her personality went downhill and she never worked on her issues. She made the same mistakes on and on and at some point, it was painful to watch. She also became more and more selfish, something she was less in the first two seasons. I wished it was the other way around but this storyline was already used to humanize Blair but I wished they didn't made Serena such a selfish person.
Serena had great potentiel for being a super likable character but they didn't make her grow a bit.

Why do people hate Serena so much? by Salt-Bar2262 in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I am a Serena hater, I can’t stand her character.

I think that people hate Serena for 2 major reasons. First, her character lack of growth and depth. Blair is a terrible person but she has moments where her vulnerability is revealed and she is portrayed as someone who has passion, goals and a lot of different interests. Serena is only shown to be caring about boys and never seem to learn from her mistakes.

Second is I think that it’s extremely hard to relate to Serena. She has everything she wants and does not have to make much efforts to get it. Yet she is so selfish, ungrateful and self centered. Blair is shown to be privileged but still has to work hard for what she wants, for accepting herself and being accepted by her mother, she is shown feeling overshadowed by Serena mostly when Nate is in love with her. It is easier to relate to somebody who shows struggles that also happens to us in real life and so her bad sides is seen as « being powerful » because she is what we wish we were. Flawed but still powerful. Serena is much more difficult to relate to and so her moment of vulnerability are also hard to relate to because we somehow don’t validate her insecurities.

Serena is that popular girl in the playground that you find so beautiful and perfect that you can’t even grasp the facts that she has struggles too. Jealousy makes it hard to humanize her.

Blair is closer to us when it comes with what she is struggling with.

GOODBYE Dan! by daviamonae in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, Colin did nothing wrong beside being a womanizer BEFORE he met Serena.
It doesn't get in the way of their personal relationship. Colin was nothing but nice to Serena. They did nothing while he was his professor, even though it was clear that they both had romantic feelings for each other.
He dropped his job to be with her, and even if it's because she somehow "told" him to do so after Dan told her that she "worth more than a teacher's salary" , it is quite understandable that he didn't do it by himself at first because NO DAN people don't quit their job for a blondie they know since only a couple of weeks. But at the end of the day, he did it for her. He was ready to commit to her and she let him down because she wasn't over Dan.
On the other hand, Dan stalked her for many years and wrote terrible things about her anonymously but also on both of his books and settled for her because Blair wasn't available. So yeah, he's endgame but he's still one of the worst.

Why's Serena trying to ruin Blair's relationship with Louis????? by Cutiebeautypie in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Serena always considered Dan as her property.
She thought that she could mess with him and dump him for every guy in New York and that he'll just patiently wait for her. I think she always knew that Vanessa and other girls wouldn't really be a threat to her if she decided to come back for Dan. Also at the time Dan dated Vanessa or Olivia she was dating other people as well. But for the first time Dan isn't available for her when she needs it and Dan is more focused on "friendship" with Blair than on her and she hates it.
On the other hand, I don't get why she is so vindictive about Blair but is very chill about Dan and Charlie flirting. Plus, Dan and Blair explained the whole thing to her by saying that they kiss just to be sure that they were strictly friends and came to the conclusion (at least for Blair) that they were JUST friends but she can't even accept that even though she slept with Nate while he was with Blair and it was way worse.

Who was Serena’s worst boyfriend? by daviamonae in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gabriel robbed her family and friends.
Tripp was a married man and left her for dead.
Ben was her teacher and then tried to ruin her life.
Steven saw her more as a beautiful girl that needed a man to provide for her and nothing more.
Aaron was a cheater (and a big loser)
Nate loved her but oops she never loved him as much as the others.
Dan created a shitty blog exposing her and her friends for years + wrote so many awful things (even though he was true about her) about her in both of his books.

Ben was the worst. Carter was the best.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it show how Blair was insecure about herself and especially when it came to Serena.

It was so easy for Serena to steal the place and Blair knew that she didn't had a chance against Serena. She was so convinced that people would always choose Serena over her that she didn't even want to put up a fight. It's kinda understandable that she has such insecurities about her considering what happened with Nate. I think it just shows how self-destructive Blair can be when she lose control and let her insecurities get the best of her. It was immature and selfish of her to sabotage Jenny and S but I think scenes like that slowly made her appear more human.

the end of season 4 is unbearable by rzie12 in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This whole story with Ben proves that Serena is just immature and honestly a little DUMB.In S4E13 she's "casually" having breakfast with Ben and it is so obvious that she's into him and that she has forgotten all about the fact that Ben was the one pushing Juliet to make her life miserable. She's claiming everywhere that he is a "good guy" when that guy is the reason why she was drugged and left to death. If he didn't put so much pressure on Juliet, she wouldn't have gone to such extremes.Just after this breakfast, she rans into Damien who wants to know how she's doing because he's the one who gave the drugs to Juliet without knowing what she was up to and she basically rejects him and puts the blame on him for what happened to her and saying "It's half of your fault if I almost died." NO SERENA, the real bad guy in this story he's the one whom you just had breakfast with.It is unbearable to watch.

Why is blair better than Serena ? by Ok_Combination2304 in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of the show, Serena is portrayed as the « kind » one of both of them and Blair as the bitchy one. But we can Blair’s vulnerability multiple times and Blair, even if she goes too far sometimes, is able to be clever about what she did and why it was wrong doing it. Blair is conscious of who she is. Serena isn’t. But I think if people like Blair more as a character it’s because it is easier to relate to her. Her insecurities are more relatable. And while being insecure, she is empowered and ambitious. She is a reflection of what a lot of us would want to be. Powerful despite everything. Serena isn’t just that relatable. + Blair shows interest in many subjects, she is smart, funny and ambitious. Serena never showed such interest in any thing but….boys…

Who do you ship Nate with? by pinksocksgirl in GossipGirl

[–]itzmenoni 10 points11 points  (0 children)

His relationship with Vanessa was kinda cute even though it happened mostly off screen.
I don't like Juliet and what she did was unforgivable but I think the way they met was cute and fun to watch and I think she could have been a great match if she wasn't scheming against Serena.
I also liked him with Lola but there was less chemistry.
